Philips Fidelio X2?!

Which Grados, If I may ask? I'm having the same problem with my X2 as socks mk2. I haven't enjoyed my metal ever since I started buying better headphones, X2 included. (I started appreciating other genres more than I did before, e.g. unplugged albums and classical).

I couldn't explain my metal dissatisfaction. I partially attributed it to the fact that my ears have evolved and they can now detect how badly recorded most metal albums are, which I'm sure is true to some extent, but even the few metal albums that seem to have good separation and dynamics still sound so dull.

So maybe I just made the wrong choices (atleast for hard rock and metal).  Are Grados the solution? Would SR60/80e do the trick?  Also, is there an equivalent IEM with whatever quality Grados have that makes them good for metal.  My only IEM is the vsonic VSD3S, and it doesn't do metal justice either.

I have the SR80e. I think they're phenomenal, especially for the price. I'm really enjoying my IM50s for metal. They were just ok until I took the filters off and switched to UE600 tips. Now I can't take them off without feeling a sense of loss.

Surprised by the amount of bass in the X2 coming from HD598s. I don't know if the X2 could match closed backs in that department, but I like them!

Are there shorter alternatives to the cable? Would a new cable solve potential balances I can't detect, or is it a problem with the drivers?

Edit: found this that answered some imbalance questions. Might help others http://www.head-fi.org/t/723025/philips-fidelio-x2/3150#post_11301209

You know that sounds silly right?

People normally check for imbalance issues because they believe they can hear an imbalance, so they can confirm what they are hearing.

If you don't hear it then you haven't got a problem, you can always play something back in mono, if you still cant hear an imbalance then forget about it and just enjoy them.

And i learn that the x2
Contains azo dyes
http://www.head-fi.org/t/723025/philips-fidelio-x2/4245
I wouldn't buy this potentially life threatening products!
It's even banned in Europe, why would even philips possibly able produce a product contain azi dyes

Lot of cloths that contain azo dyes even recalled
https://www.accc.gov.au/update/textiles-recalled-after-tests-for-azo-dyes

It's funny how great/perfect things seem always have cons that balanced the good of it

So sad
Well,must find alternative headphones....

This has all been covered, did you even read the link I posted yesterday, that's from the manufacturer of the X2, they are using azo dyes that conform with the European Law. Its only a small group of azo dyes that might have a small risk.

Azo dyes are used everywhere, you probably wearing cloths right now containing azo dyes, some foods and drinks contain azo dyes.

Just a fact, that there is no prove(document) here showing that
Specifically said it's not dangerous from the official.

It's just a text posted in head fi so far.

People need to see the email really legitimate and come from Philips representatives or woox as you said before.

Food?? R u kidding me?? Even a jeans recalled just because it contains azo dye that touch our skin

The au gov site
Said there's no food contains azo dye or still available right now

What kind of channel imbalance workaround?

I found an old Sony IEM in-line volume control in my electronics junk box.  Then I opened it up and found which side of the potentiometer goes to the RIGHT side and bypassed the connections with a soldered jumper wire.  So now the volume control only effects the problematic LEFT side.   It seamlessly plugs into the end of the original cable.  Admittedly, it's a temporary McGuyver solution but I'm thoroughly pleased with the results.

Eventually, I'll get around to soldering a tiny chip resister somewhere in the left side channel once I determine which value works best.

I also purchased another 1/4" stereo cable from Direkt Cable but that did NOT fix the imbalance. So the problem is apparently due to mis-matched drivers or in the extra cable length that runs through the headband from the left to the right side.

As previously stated, I LOVE THESE CANS! The extra fine tuning to remedy the channel imbalance was a labor of love.
