I just discovered that my MPB already have a digital output =)
I'm looking now for a low output impedance amp with optical input.
I was really into Vali but I would need Modi get use of that.
Any suggestions ?

How about the more powerful Magni? I have the Magni 2 Uber on the way, should be here on Wednesday. I'll definitely post up thoughts. If you don't want that much power or to spend that much $$$...in all honesty, the X2's sounds awesome off my little JDS Labs cMoy.

I'll wait for your thoughts about it with magni 2, then :D

Ok guys, I know this is kind of a dumb question but recently I accidentally "yanked" the cable out of the headphone side of the cable (my foot was on the cable when tried to stand up) and I was wondering, could this have damaged the headphone at all?

Try it and see. I doubt it though. If anything, I'd say you could maybe damage the cable but I don't see damaging the headphone unless the cable gets yanked at a sharp angle to the cup. That's one thing I really like about this detachable cable. I've done that more than once with other headphones that weren't detachable and had them ripped off my head. Not a good feeling. This way it's kinda like a safety.

So I thought I would try a DAC
Would the sabre DAC work with the x2?
Can it power the headphones without an amp?

First I thought I had to shell out for the edac(odac) but this one seems pretty good so what do u guys think?

The HIFIMEDIY SABRE USB DAC ES9023 96KHZ/24BIT works great with the x2,just got one in the mail yesterday!

Clieos mentioned in a thread that the sabre DAC had an output impedance near 500ohm and that it won't be as good of a source as it could be.
What does that mean?

What specs am I looking for when buying a DAC for the x2?
I think I read that an amp for x2 got to have less than 1ohm output impedance. But does that go for the DAC as well?

For low impedance hps you probably want to get a device with output impedance less than 1/10 phones impedance (so far I read, correct me if I'm wrong)

The original Audioquest Dragonfly also uses the same sabre chip iirc and has an output impendance of 0,65 ohm. It sounds really good with the X2's

The sabre and dragonfly 1.2 sound very similar to me, but my ears are probably not very well trained. I would be surprised if the sabre output impedance is that much higher than the dragonfly as it doesn't sound bad. Can anyone confirm the HiFimeDIY sabre dac output impedance?

For $42 the sabre dac sounds great with my x2 (connected to O2 amp) and works with my OTG USB out of my note 3, which is exactly what I wanted. The dragonfly 1.2 does not work with OTG USB out of my note 3, except with USB Audio Pro.

This guy measured it to 200ohm

Have you tried the sabre DAC connected to the x2 without the O2 amp?
Does it sound as good without?

Are you saying the sabre is as good as the dragonfly without the O2 amp?

I will try without the amp later today and report back. If it has output impedance of 200 ohms (which I doubt) then the dragonfly should sound better. Dragonfly costs 3 times as much though. I am using the sabre with a mobile setup, if you are looking for a dac for your home setup I would go with dragonfly or schiit modi.
