Philips Fidelio X2?!

Hey obsidyen, you mention geek out earlier. Did you own one or listened to one? Do you mind sharing how it sounded with the X2?

I borrowed one for a few days, didn't quite like it enough to buy it.  I think it's a bit on the warm sound side (not neutral), but not in a musical way because it lacks finesse and refinement. In terms of timing, Geek out is not very good. Music just doesn't flow right compared to Explorer2 and Chord Hugo (best in timing). I'd give it 3.5/5.

Ah interesting. May I ask which model you tried?

The X2 sounds sooooo damn good off the Vali. Seriously, once you get past the Vali's noise floor (inaudible when you're actually listening to music), the X2 sounds amazing off it.

I can totally understand why people still love the Vali even with it's imperfections. I've gone from $100-$600 amps, and all in between, yet the Vali is my FAVORITE.

Hi Mad Lust Envy,

May I ask what DAC are you using with the Vali and X2?

I can get them back to Amazon in about 24 hours.

You should wait, they're (in my opinion, of course) the best headphones under $500

I have the label printed but now I'm on the fence. Will the bass actually settle?

Ugh... if people actually used the search function.

I have the X2 and I'm not a believer in burn in.

My recommendation: return it now.  If you get the itch to try the X2 again, buy it again and restart the 30 day return clock which give you amble time to burn in if you're so inclined.  Better do that than regret your $300 purchase.

I've been on the fence with these lately. Trying to decide between these, bt-990's, he-400s, or hd650s. So far I must say that the X2 is in the lead. I just wish they would hit massdrop or that I didn't see the bt-990s going for $240 there ha.

Just got mine. I'm on my second track. So far I found it a little harsh.

My setup is MPB > E10K (low gain, bass boost off) > X2

On not-so-good mastered tracks, the highs are really harsh.
The soundstage is, indeed, way bigger than my DT770 pro but stills not so large how I was thinking it was.

I'm now listening Tame Impala's 'Lorenism' (CD RIP) but its _not_ a very dynamic recording.

The bass is... superb. Nothing to say about it, just ... perfect.

UPDATE:

Just testing directly on my laptop, it sounded better than on E10k. It's the second time it happens. I once tried a DT880 250ohm and it sounded more controlled direct on laptop.

When I got my X1's, I wasn't too impressed.  They didn't seem to be the same headphones the reviews hyped them up to be.  However, after having used them for a few hundred hours, I can say that they've changed, performing far more like the headphones in the reviews than how they started out with.
