Philips Fidelio X2?!

Nice job Philips for responding to your customer base and correcting a few issues with this great product line. I've read a few posts regarding the headphone jack as a weak link in the build of these phones with a few owners rendering their phones inoperative due to breaking this jack area.  Has it been improved upon? I can't tell by the new review if this has been fixed.

Well I guess that months of pondering what headphone to buy and checking prices made me a good amazon obscure algorithm price forecaster

After Tyll's review it's pretty good to be on our bandwagon

Lol, I'll be sure to seek your advice on the purchase of future products on Amazon.it to gain the optimal price!

As regards to the review I just read it and have to say I'm content and alarmed in almost equal measure. I do like that vocals seem to have been brought slightly forward as that was one of the areas I felt the X1 could have improved on. On the other hand, I am a bit worried they may have a less lofty sound and be more akin to the MA900's and to a lesser extent HD600's which I found quite light. It could possibly end up sounding even more expansive than the X1's as a result which is hard to fathom and would help reconcile matters.

I guess I'll know soon enough. I'm hoping AZ has overestimated their delivery date as they often do and I get them end of next week. I'm definitely curious to hear if they sound much different than I remember and yes, it sure does feel like a premium wagon!

for sure (=

I'm not sure what to expect, I'm not an expert, but my XB500 are bass cannons and I'd want a fairly balanced if not very slightly bassy pair of cans, and I was just looking to spend a little more going with the HD600 as they are highly regarded and feared X1/X2 to be still too bassy. But if X2 are exactly what Tyll describe I'll be an happy man!

I was one of those victims and looking at the X2's they have kept the same flush 3.5mm output design so it will boil down to how secure the socket assembly is on the inside. As the pads are not glued this time I will check to see how well it is secured down.

If I suspect they have just used the same thin solder contact points to bold it in place a la the X1 then (on the assumption I love the sound) I will definitely have to strengthen the connection with resin or something more fitting. I'm really hoping they have made amendments though to the original flawed design.

Coming from XB500's I seriously can't imagine even the X1 being be too bass rich for you. They had a slight emphasis on bass but it was pretty clean and didn't mask the overall spectrum. They were just really energetic/dynamic and good all-rounders for most genres of music.

Currently using  Sr80s myself, so relatively speaking I doubt I will have any issues but if I'm left with the sentiment that I'm hearing a wholly different can and/or they are specialised for certain genres of music then I'll be left annoyed by the deviation. Guess I'll know soon enough :)

Yeah I know, I think brain burn-in is the biggest problem when changing cans..

When Tyll says the X2 better balanced than the HD600 does that mean the treble is a bit recessed on the HD600 (even though it's less grainy)? Also would be good to know how they compare in resolution and timbre (the latter being a particular strength of the HD600).

It would still be good to get a comparison with the L2 which is supposedly a bit closer to neutral. I've not heard of the treble problem in the L2.

Yes, to my ears L2 is more neutral sounding and the treble on L2 is great, no harshness at all and very well extended.

As a big fan of the HD600, Tyll's review has got me particularly interested in the X2. He made some pretty big claims, but for the most part I tend to agree with him, so I look forward to giving them a listen once they are released.

It's constructed out of solid aluminium, thick leather, memory foam and other heavy duty high quality materials. What were you expecting, Sennheiser/AKG plastic? :p

The X1 is so comfortable that you don't even notice the weight. The AKG Q701 by comparison is lighter yet you can feel the weight because they're uncomfortable.

It is what it is!

I get neck sores after wearing heavy headphones, which unfortunately limits me to <300g for all-day-long use. If I can't use a headphone for 5-6 hours comfortably, then I have no reason to get it. I'm not alone, there are many on this forum who dislike ortho's and such for the same reason.

Quality materials are fine and all, but headphones have no reason to be so fancy. What functions do the aluminum and steel and leather serve? And yes I prefer the standard Senn/AKG plastics. Durable stuff, lasts forever, you don't care if it gets scratched up...

Same man. I only go with the MOST comfortable stuff. They are enough of a nuisance as it is, with wire and all. Don't need a ****ton of weight too. That means Beyers in, few Sennheisers in... Most other stuff OUT.

In my experience, design plays a huge role in how weight is distributed and the subjective feel.  For example, I found the HE560, HD800 and Oppo PM1 to feel as light as an HD600.

Sure, this is completely unscientific and only for a short amount of time, but I could instantly tell that I would never be able to wear any Audeze headphone for any appreciable amount of time without getting a neck ache.  So hopefully these will fall into the deceptively light category.

Idk, I don't think I like how the x series is evolving. The x1 measured better, so I think I'd rather have that. I don't think philips is above making a regression. If you recall, they screwed up the cable on the x1, so they aren't infallible. I'm going to assume they made a mistake somewhere with the x2 rather than tyll's generous assumption that philips did some psychoacoustic tuning.
