THAT FREAKIN SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT SHOULD BE CALLED X2i
I suggested earlier that it be called the Philips Fidelio X1 "Here's Your Stupid Removable Ear Pads You Whinny Headphone Nerds" Stealth Edition.
I'm both disappointed (I was hoping to hear it'd be a big improvement) and relieved (I don't feel bad about getting a cheap pair of X1's).
If I'd constructed an X2 with a "big improvement" over already heavily underpriced (given the wonderful EQ-able audio aswell as the build quality of the X1 in comparison to the competition) cans, I wouldn't sell them at the same price ...
Why would they have a discontinued model there?

To compare them to the new version seems logic to me,that you wanna let people hear the difference/upgrade.....but since they haven't i know there is no difference soundwise just like some guys just stated......they just took the minor things and upgraded them so they should be called X1U(pgraded)
The X1 pads are (well documented in various corners of the w3) easy to remove/replace, but I doubt I have to change them in the coming 5-7 years...compared with the US Pro 900 pads (still have the 1st set mounted - after min. 4 hrs daily use in 4 years), the X1 pads seem to me MUCH sturdier. AFAIK Philips EU delivers spare pads - normally you have to send your can in for an replacement, but you should get a pair on order sent to your door.. ymmv...
