I wouldn´t expect future generations to be any better. This is just another iteration of Sandy bridge. There was a significant jump from core 2 duo to Sandy bridge. Intel learn what short cuts they can take to maximize profit and make sure their CPU run well at their rated speeds. As they say themselves they don´t officially support overclocking.
 
We need AMD to start pull up the pressure but it doesn´t look like that will happen. The pressure would be in the budget segment and well that is not pushing Intel to deliver better build quality on their CPUs does it to enhance the clock speeds.
 
Even though it doesn´t clock as well it still steadilly outperforms higher clocked ivy and sandy bridge CPUs overall. However not enough so I would bother if I had one of those that´s for sure. But see little reason not getting a Haswell if you are buying new seeing it´s not more expensive then the older series.
That said I will be frustrated if I can´t at least get 4,4 out of my custom WC setup wiithout setting fans on the radiator to turbo jet mode lol
 
4.2 I think is for the lay mans on stock air cooler and stock voltage  I don´t believe it´s that bad otherwise. HardOCP had made a roundup and the majority did 4,4 and like 1/10 did 4,8

I'm not upgrading for a while. Pinning my hopes on the IB-E/Haswell-E launch. I want some hex or octocore goodness and if it has the that problem...well I might de-lid it then(or add a chiller to my loop).

GPU: Sapphire 7950 overclocked to 1250mhz/1450mhz
RAM: 8gb Crucial Tactical Tracers R/G 1866mhz
HD: 600gb Western Digital Velociraptor 10000rpm
SSD: 128gb Samsung 830
PSU: 850W OCZ ZX Gold
CPU cooler: Cooler master V6GT
CASE: Coolermaster Storm trooper
Im wanting to upgrade soon but idk if i should go Ivy, Haswell, or Steamroller coming out later this year,
Can i get recommendations on each part of the computer, im starting from scratch and also dont recommend me cooler master, Ive bought 9 things from them and they treat me like ****

I've had only mediocre experiences from CM
 
Their coolers are just meh. I've had many problems with the installation of their coolers. Be it due to bad instruction, not including brackets they should have included, or piss poor part quality.
 
Looking at your specs, it looks like you have a good idea of what to get already.
 
Everyone has different standards for computer building. Some go for maximum performance, others go for looks, others go for good reliability etc.
 
I go for what you do. Bast average(meaning good) parts for Mobo, RAM, HDD, SSD, PSU, Case. And then going $200 on a CPU and then all out on a GPU with the rest of the funds. It doesn't look like something that one can take fancy pics with in the end, but it will feature stuff with good performance and reliagbility

Initial thoughts from first hour and a half of gameplay: combat is a bit clunky without a gamepad(and might be clunky with a gamepad), no worse than Witcher two I guess, though the acrobatic dodges throw me off sometimes(especially combined with the narrow FOV). Wall climbing and movement is pretty much the same as the Tomb Raider reboot, which is pretty much the same as every game to ever have wall climbing in it, camera angles could be less awkward though.
 
Graphics are pretty dated, even the vectorish artstyle doesn't make up for the low res textures and lack of advanced lighting, The default FOV is horrible(as is the way with many console ports), must be what...55 or 65? Gonna see if that can't be fixed in the ini files since there's no option to change it natively in the game menus. Graphics are certainly a weak point of this game, it just looks badly dated straight out of the box and no amount of motion blur and bloom will fix that.
 
Plot is...meh okay. It's the general sci-fi dystopia of most of the population being dependent on a big company to provide a product that they're all addicted to. Thus rich people can afford it and everyone else lives in the slums like a bad druggie. In this case the drug/product is memories.

It feels like Sleeping Dogs and Mirrors Edge and Batman Arkham, and Syndicate. From what I could tell from trailers and news.
 
Difference from low to high settings isn't that big either.

im looking at the asus maximus 6 with the armor and the asus maximus 6 impact (mini itx beast mode). I also want this build to be all in 1 color this time, maybe i can finally use my water cooling setup which i bought off someone for 50 and never used it except to test it

CPU: Haswell i7 4770K or Ivy i7 3770K. Either will be fine, although hot when given a big overclock unless you de-lid them and reapply the thermal paste properly.
 
Mobo: Anything. Pick the one that looks best and has the best warranty for your budget. Very little performance differentiation between motherboards these days. I like gigabyte and MSI, but that's because they have reasonably local RMA centers and nice colours.
 
GPU: Keep.
 
RAM: Keep. No games use more than 8GB of RAM.
 
HDD: Keep or upgrade to a decent size storage disk, something like a 2TB or 3TB drive. Alternative - do what I did and use a bunch of high capacity SSDs for storage. I don't have any hard drives. 2TB of SSDs ftw.
 
SSD: Keep for boot/essential programs.
 
PSU: Keep. Hell 800W is overkill. 500W is more than enough for anything short of a high end X-fire/SLI rig.
 
CPU Cooler: Noctua NHD-14, Thermalright Silver arrow, BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 2, NZXT Havik are all beefy cpu coolers that look decent(well, not the noctua) and will cope with overclocks. Otherwise you could go with a AIO loop like the H80i or H100i. If you really feel like having fun go for a full custom loop.
 
Case: Keep. If you don't want to keep the case, tell us what kind of things you need from your case, ie, silence over cooling, lots of space or smaller size, etc...

MSI do nice blue/black/silver themed stuff. Works nicely with the blue Kingston ram.

Asus is always a red/black look to me with the Sabretooth stuff being army/camo. Sabretooth and the Thermalright silver arrow might look really good.

Intel hasn't made a jump on computing performance, rather energy efficiency.  ARM based CPUs not only have a large market, they are evolving rapidly.  Intel made their first steps with Ivy Bridge and have taken it up a notch with Haswell.
 
As game development will target AMD netbook variant CPUs, why push the performance envelope further?
 
Intel is being pressured on power consumption and not performance, thus they have adapted differently.

Is it hard to delid haswell without risking causing damage.Anybody got a good guide on how to do it? Will all coolers work without the lid?

I sort of mentioned that awhile back.  This AMD architecture fusion is not getting enough traction as of late.
 

Since a lot of games are designed for the PC first, the impact will be minimal there.

If that were true sherlock we'd have more than a handful of PC based titles announced since 2010....  I'm thinking of upgrading solely for TW3, cannot wait!
Bought another 360 for the FF13 series, will have to sell this one after I finish Lightning Returns.

I'd imagine it would be possible, damage is quite common though.  Not all coolers are recommended (some in particular actually crack the CPU lol).  Can't remember exactly which have been known to due this.
 
In all honesty you would not even need to bother, Haswell has very little overclocking headroom period.
