Passive EQ for STAX
Nov 11, 2004 at 12:03 PM Post #16 of 16
Anyone with access to a STAX Basic, Classic or Signature system and an equalizer may wish to replicate the effect of the Passive EQ shown above. Here are some recommended settings.

For a Parametric EQ without bandwidth correction:-
+4dB @ 3.4kHz, 1/2 octave
-5dB @ 10.5kHz, 1/6 octave
If your parametric EQ is digital it probably has bandwidth correction and the 3.4kHz filter should be narrowed slightly to 1/3rd octave.

For a Conventional Analog (31-band, 1/3rd octave) Graphic EQ:-
+4dB @ 3.15kHz
+2dB @ 4kHz
-4dB @ 10kHz
Depending on the exact design you may need +1dB @ 2.5kHz and increase the 4kHz slider to +3dB, as many manufacturers use narrower filters to reduce spillover between bands.

For a Digital Graphic EQ with "True-Response":-
+1dB @ 2.5kHz
+4dB @ 3.15kHz
+2dB @ 4kHz
+1dB @ 5kHz
-4dB @ 10kHz
-1dB @ 12.5kHz
This last option is probably redundant, since digital equalizers tend to have parametric filter capabilities built in, and parametric is infinitely preferable to any type of graphic EQ for this application.
