I have a JW2C51 with D getter. This is the only WE I've seen that has JW-2C51 markings only. They all seem to have either 396a or JW-2C51 AND 396a printed on them. Is there a difference?

so how do you like your paradisea with the JW2C51 tube? would love to hear more people comment about how their paradisea performs with various tubes or how it compares with other dacs.

I actually tried out the russian 6H3p-E (6N3p), and it was not good. Things were harder to listen to, less fluid, less involving. There also seemed to be less depth and dimension compared to the National 2C51.

I havn't really compared the National 2C51 to the WE396A, but I think the National has a tighter bass (but that's all I was able to decern between the two).

The stock GE wasn't that bad either. Sure better than the russian tube.

I just noticed this thread today. Your descriptions are spot on about the sound of this dac. I think it's a terrific value. I find the USB connection superior in my listening test. The older model is no slouch..the newer version is just better IMO.

Don't have the Paradisea yet - should be ordering it any day now($$$). In the meantime I picked up a couple of replacement tubes (Bendix 6385 and the 2C51) so I'll be ready to roll when it arrives.

Tubesandmore is out of Bendix 6385, where did you source yours? I got one quote for $125 which kind of makes the economics of owning a Paradisea DAC questionable.

You probably have the WE 2C51, which is different from WE 396A, you can check the list I posted a few posts up based on the info I received from MHDT Lab.

Is this place reliable? I see that this place doesn't take paypal or credit card, only money orders. Did you get your Bendix 6385 already?

I'm tempted to get one, but have heard mixed reviews regarding this tube.

Yes. I was a bit wary at first but took a chance anyway. Against all common sense I actually put cash in an envelope and sent it off(banzaiiiii). Tube arrived about two weeks later NOS in original military box pkg date 11-64.
Depending on who you ask you'll hear mixed reviews about most tubes out there.

I like RCA Command Series 5670 in my mhdt dac, better than sylvania gold pin 5670 d getter, the we396a round getter, or GE or 5670W or national 2c51 tubes.

i'm still using my we396a d-getter, and to tell you the truth, i'm still itching to switch back to either the ge stock tube or the sylvania tube for the warmer sound. i was waiting for the we396a to burn in. it's definitely more neutral, but i miss the warmer sound.

so anyone here actually get to compare the bendix 6385 directly with the other tubes yet?

on a side note, are there any of you using apple itunes for play back? i'm not sure if apple does "upsampling" through quicktime and itunes, but i noticed that if you set the audio output under "quicktime preference" to 96 kHz, the sound seems to be fuller.

I am considering a purschase of Quad 12L Active studio monitors

computer first. The setup will be computer - Squeezebox - 12L`s ative -

Where shoud the external DAC be placed ? I think computer - Squeezebox -
(here)DAC - 12L`s active. If i`m wrong, make it rihgt for me please.

In this case of set up, will the computer soundcards quatilty and DAC`s have
an impact of the sound ? Will the computers soundcard just be a transporter
of audio bits. Soundcard is M - audio revolution 7.1 with only mini jack`s,
but have digital out SP/DIF (or is it coaxil out ?).

Is digital out the same as SP/DIF ? If so, when using this SP/DIF
connection, do i bypass the soundcards DAC`s ? Maybe thats the point, if my

connect this gear ?

Then, if SP/DIF bypasses CAD`s, do i have to use analog outs from the

What kind of mods to Squeezebox 3 do you suggest, if you dear to advise with

think it will be better audo resolutions, after modding SB3 and with use of

First I have to purschase the 12L active and the Squeezebox. Then I have to save some money 3 – 4 mounts before I purschase a DAC. And some money saving again. I can afford a mod on the Squeezebox.

I am living alone with my 15 years old son and sometimes some of his friends
in the same 25 squaremeter room. So we both need a decent sound. Since we
have to listen to each others music taste either we will or not. But we like
the same music pretty often. If the sound is okay we both will have a nice
time. Me and my son will be wery pleased for answer to this questions.
