Considering that I have the Oppo PM-3 and the HA-2SE now, I don't really want to use my phone as a media device. Can anyone recommend something that will be a relatively good, cheap media player? I've looked at the Fiio products, but would love some suggestions if there's other brands to consider.

Take a look at the Shanling players, regarding cables the stock one is fine until it breaks, then you could upgrade to something from Forza Audioworks, or Atlas cables, or even Toxic cables.

This may be a dumb question, and I apologise in advance, but does the HA-2SE support balanced audio. I'm assuming it does. Will I just get a cable with a 3.5mm connection?

Also, I’m going to Japan in a week so I will have a look around for a DAP whilst there. Can anyone recommend a place to buy from whilst there?

It's a regular unbalanced 3.5mm not balanced unfortunately.
