Yes, they are very revealing and easy to spot the impact of tube, cable and DAC changes etc. I opted for the comets with their detailed dynamic sound as I knew I could pop in some warmer tube combos to dial it back if I wanted to. That said, I haven’t found them tiresome even on long listening sessions. Very addictive sound.
. I do think when it comes to DHT tubes (since they're all about mid magic), the silver Vitamin Q would be the most synergistic one and would love to try that on those amps
The DAC power supply is important as well. The Auralic VEGA G2.2 has not just the solid outer aluminium case to keep out RF interference but also a secondary inner copper case that shields it from external noise. When I added a mains power block with filtering you could hear the loss of digital edge from noise getting in from the house ring mains. Improved stage depth and image accuracy as well becoming more liquid. The amp is plugged into the filter bypass as it sounded better this way but the DAC, that responded very well to mains filtering!Indeed! It forced me to rethink of how I should optimize my digital chain since the prior one always ends up getting a bit fatiguing after 3 hours. With my optimized digital chain, I could listen all day and not make my ears feel stuffed
