The world needs more top-notch closed headphones. Love the looks and feel of the PM-1, here's hoping the PM-3 has a nore neutral and treble-extended sound. Kudos to Oppo for jumping into the closed ortho fray!

I am intrigued the the HA-2. Hopefully it will work nicely with sensitive IEMs (i.e. no hiss, no channel imbalances, lots of volume range to play with etc..). Looking forward to impressions on SQ.

Is the Oppo Team doing their audition today at the Rocky Mountain Audiofest, or was it yesterday? Want to make sure I catch it streaming live if so, Thanks

Mike

I've recently been looking for a closed counterpart for my LCD 2. Excited to see where Oppo goes with the PM3. If the reviews of the finalized product are good and they are sub-$500, I will definitely be interested. Might be something I'll be getting upon release.

It's a nice slim unit that's for sure, felt solid during my demo on Friday at RMAF.
Alas, I hope everyone knows that with the lightning to USB cable out of an iDevice that you can not send high Rez files 24/96 or higher to the DAC/Amp.
A CCK cable is required to hear 24/96 and above.
CEntrace mini M8 and HiFi-M8 has this same CCK requirement but also has two USB ports on their units.

That's interesting to hear about. I can play a 24/192 WAV file through the Accudio app with the 30-pin to USB cable from the iPhone 4S. I didn't know the Lightning connector was limited.

@Hastur Better to go for a matte finish on PM3. It's less blingy for wearing in public and more practical (fingerprints and dust less visible, less likely to show scratches). PM1 needs a little more padding on the headband, so that might apply here too.

Apple firmware and cable limitation, not vendors fault.
But the topic is alive here as well:

So if the CCK is being forced on high res music lovers, the only iDevice using a single CCK cable solution to a DAC/amp is the iFi micro iDSD and its unique USB port.

The Headphone Out of my Sony PCM-M10 recorder is just a convenience feature for monitoring or playback of recordings while still in the field, but using its analog Line Out, the OPPO HA-2's amp section makes a great companion.

Sony PCM-M10 Line Out > OPPO HA-2 > OPPO PM-1

(OPPO HA-2 prototype - the released version might be different)

You can play hi-res files with that app (or also CanOpener, Onkyo HF Player, etc...) but the very same limitation exists whether output over Lightning, or 30-pin, the audio is being down sampled to 16/48 which is governed by Apple's firmware, and is the maximum unless using the CCK.

Indeed. You're more or less correct.

I have an updated post here:
