Could you quickly tell me about the build quality and/ or materials used for the stand?I'm also interested in buying it when I buy the pm-1

 
It has an oval wood base stained in dark cherry red with the Oppo name in silver letter. That piece is very well made and nicely finish. The top part is made of thick acrylic in the shape of the Omega stands. The bottom of the acrylic piece is inserted into the the wood based through a pair of slots at the top of the base. IMO it looks very elegant and it is very functional with a better support than the Omegas due to the base. I also ordered a second Stax clear cover like the one I am using in my SR-009 to use with the PM-1.

Just curious why you are so emphatic that oppo's goal of neutrality, as compared to others. Just reading the description on their site and they used words like balanced and natural and efficient. What matters is the sound, not the perception of the company.

You know, the background just knows man, it just knows. It knows what song is coming on next so it has this crazy patented technology that cancels out any of the recording hiss and such. It's nuts man. It's nuts.

Better dynamics can often be construed as a darker background.

The Oppo advertisement on page 78 of the June 2014 issue of Stereophile shows the HA-1 (black version) and the PM-1.  But the headphone is on a stand that looks different from the cherry wood stand; the base appears to be black.  If that's not a Photoshopped image, and there really was a black version made of the stand, I sure hope Oppo releases it.  The cherry just doesn't work in my listening area.

Hmm, I've never seen a pic of a black Oppo stand.
Are you sure it is an Oppo model, or just a similar stand? Does it have the Oppo logo on it?
Can you post a pic of it?

Yes, there is no issues. it is pretty stable.

Here's the ad.  The stand says Oppo on it and is identical to the stand we've seen everywhere else, but for the color of the wood base.  They just may have photoshopped it for the ad, because the cherry would be inconsistent with the other colors chosen.

Btw Hastur, can you ask the powers-that-be to look into increasing the length of the mini-jack cable?   As it is, that length is pretty useless - I cannot go from sitting in bed to lying down without needing to move my player.  1' more would be grand.   Thanks!

Yes, I think that is it. Part of the pic is darkened or made black and white and in the process made the hp stand also look black.

Even though an all black base stand would be pretty nice as well. Maybe in the future they will implement the 2 brushed aluminum colors of the HA-1
