I'm not getting how people think these are "weak", usual Head-Fi Hyperbole®? They're a solid, attractive product, and when prices settle down a little they'll be a decent value too.

Speaking of B&W, does anyone know whether Bowers & Wilkins® markets a headphone?  I reckon they might have some interest in one, given the new demand for headphones in the consumer base.  Oppo® went for an item that can serve the low-impedance market exceptionally well, given the demand for portable audio devices (viz., the Apple® iPod® and derivatives, and their competition from the likes of Creative®, Samsung®, Microsoft® Audio Hardware, &c.); the PM-1 is now with us (as of 15 May 2014), and I''d like to hear the PM-1 and PM-2 for myself in July, perhaps bringing my existing Plantronics® 380 headset to the Doubletree Airport as a baseline for judging the actual scale of improvement when driven by any one of the amps that will be displayed there in July.

Re portables, don't forget Pono, that could be a nice combo

Those are my thoughts exactly, though my impressions were a bit more positive than yours in comparison to other flagships. Once the PM-2 comes along, especially, Oppo will have a great value on their hands.

For those interested my review is herehttp://thehighfidelityreport.com/oppo-pm-1-planar-technology-comes-of-age-2/

Thanks for the review!  I too have paired the PM-1 with an AK240 and just love the results, I very nice package to travel with.  I haven't gotten around to purchasing a balanced cable for the PM-1/AK240 pair, but look forward to see if improves sound quality.

I received my RWAK120-S on Friday and had a chance to pair it up with my Vorzuge Pure II portable amp and the HD650's & PM-1  The AK120 "S" mod as a noticeable upgrade over my IPod and my stock AK120.  I would sum up the change as "greater resolution".  Focus, clarity & detail were all increased to a liquid smooth realism ( pls excuse the audiophile hyperbole :).  I think the bass as tightened up as well, seems less "woolly".  Both headphones sounded terrific!

As far as HD650 vs the PM1 goes, after 2 weeks of auditioning I'm going to send back the PM1's. I like the PM1's allot but with my rig I like the HD650's more. The PM1's improved upon some of the weakness of the HD650's but overall I lost more than I gained :frowning2:

The PM1's offer better....

Looks, build quality,solid/stronger mid-range, Greater balanced frequency response.

HD650's offer better

Bass definition or articulation or clarity whatever..You can follow the bass line easier.
Vocals sound more intimate, vivid & real. More air & breath.
Lighter weight
About 1/3 the cost of PM1's ($325 vs $1099) with shorter custom cable it would be more like $525 vs $1099.
More dynamic. PM1's sound a little boring/flat by comparison.
Music/instruments sounds more realistic to me because the HD650's playback more transients sounds of live & studio recordings.  I especially heard this with snare drum and sub bass.  The PM1's was missing some of those transients.
Bad recordings sound more energized and lively.
I liked all types of music with the HD650's.

The PM1's seemed more accurate in some areas but less accurate in others.

Anyway, that's what I heard but everyone has different ears and sonic preferences so there is "no right answer" in my view.

I got the DHC Monocle Hybrid balanced cable form Peter and it is great. IMO it opened up the soundstage and high frequencies even better.
