Oppo PM-1 Planar Magnetic Headphone Impressions Thread

The physical connector is a standard 2.5mm head, but we are using a specialized frame which has an additional gasket that allows the cable to more snuggly fit into the headphone while also providing cable stress relieft. This is why you will need to modify the cable ends which go into the headphones themselves.

The connection to your audio device is still 6.25mm (using the 3m cable) and 3.5mm (using the 1.1m cable).

  OK. I may be confused...

The frame consists of a recessed 2.5mm headphone jack (or something similar).  So in order to have the cable plug into the headphones correctly, it has to be a certain size to fit properly (or smaller than a certain size to fit at all).  The 3.5mm side (that plugs into the source) isn't impacted by this.

It is helps, here is what the input looks like on the headphone:

The physical connection is 2.5mm, but the inlet for the cable is wider and recessed. So it was not possible just to use any 2.5mm cable with the PM-1 and PM-2 headphones.

Since Oppo Digital already has engineered these up, and is actually manufacturing them, they/you should simply carry them as accessory parts in the Oppo on-line store.

Be a sneaky way of also keeping track of the size of the after-market for DIY cables specific to the Oppo cans, AND provide names to contact if the market research dept ever wants to investigate the possibility of Oppo selling its own alternative cables.

(You're most welcome.)

Already requested, but definitely something that I will not guarantee will be carried in-stock for sale direct to the customer/modified/manufacturer.

Thought I would post some pictures of some DIY cables.  Adapters for my mini xlr detachable cables, and a Jenna Labs Ultrawire DIY cable that I just finished!

Sorry for the poor quality, I was in a hurry to listen to the new Ultrawire!

Many thanks to Oppo for making their first headphone with detachable cables, from those of us that believe cables sound different!

+1
I just got yesterday a DHC Molecule SE Hybrid that is silver plated OCC Copper. It has the mini balanced TRS for the AK240. They sound fantastic our of the balanced output of the AK240.With this cable the high frequencies come out a little more to the front making the PM-1 sound even better. I am very happy with the combo.
