I'm intrested in buying an open aire sennheiser model (555, 558 or the EH350). My main uses are portable ones - working out or the train.

My question is - how noisy do they get? is the open aire feature that bad for my surrounding..? will people hate me? :)

Thanks,
nicky

You'll hear just about EVERYTHING around you and others will be able to hear your music.
Ever hear someone on the bus or something blasting music with their ipod earbuds?
Yea, that's what it's like.

Generally open back headphones are best in a quiet listening space.  Everyone around you will hear your music and you will hear everyone else as well as the constant hmmm from the engine if you're in a car or on a train.  I wouldn't get open air headphones anywhere but my house.

Oh crap... That's what I thought.. :)

I really like to crank it up, no need to be that ******* on the train :)

So what would you get for around 120-170$ mostly for portable use, for a bass lover?

The audio technica M50s are great for the price, I'm pretty sure they have decent bass too. They are closed back meaning your music won't leak out and the outside world won't leak in.
