Ok, so today I'm looking for a CD, and my mental list of online CD stores is frighteningly small:
http://www.half.com
Amazon - via Head-fi link
CD Universe
Second Spin
...
and then I go blank.

Sometimes I'll use the MUSIC function at www.addall.com to search for CDs, but that site is best for finding books.

I was hoping that we could get a sticky thread going, so that we could have a reference list of online CD stores, so that we won't have to rack our brains.
Perhaps we could have the Name of store, Link, and maybe a short description of the site if it specializes in something, such as imports, a type of music, Vinyl, etc

eg:

Half.com - http://www.half.com - new & used Cds

It would be nice if we could keep it in a nice, clean FAQ-style sticky thread...little to no discussion, just the facts. maybe we can build the list here, and then make the Master list from that?

I hope this would be helpfull for more than just myself. Any thoughts?

Major Online Retailers
http://www.towerrecords.com
www.amazon.com
www.half.com - new and used CDs
www.deepdiscountcd.com - cheap prices, free shipping
http://www.jandr.com
www.cybermusicsurplus.com -- new CDs at discount prices. Not as cheap as it used to be but still about 30% off new price. Carries a lot of labels of various genres
www.cduniverse.com
www.yourmusic.com -- $5.99 discs! See the headfi-associated link above

Used CDs
www.half.com
www.secondspin.com
http://cheap-cds.com/surf/home
www.djangomusic.com
http://www.ravensusedcds.com/
www.musicrecyclery.com -- used CDs. Smallish inventory, fair price. "cutouts" (i.e. the barcodes of the discs' tray cards has a hole punched in). Sometimes has free-shipping promotions.

Audiophile recordings
http://store.mediapitstop.net Great for rare audiophile recordings, but tends to be on the expensive side.
Super Audio CD: http://www.superaudio-cd.com/
The Audiophile Store: http://www.uhfmag.com/AudiophileStore.html

http://www.ant-zen.com/ (go to "links" there is a HUGE label list, mostly european)

www.malmusic.com - Chinese pop
www.yesasia.com - Chinese pop
www.animenation.com -- Sells legitimate game music / anime music / merchandise, ships within the US so it ends up being quite a bit cheaper than cdjapan.

All Rock - incl indie, progressive, etc
http://www.aquariusrecords.org/ - With extensive reviews and streaming samples this one is hard to beat for eclectic listening. Good place to turn on to great music nobody told you about.

Wayside Music - http://www.waysidemusic.com/
Great for the more avant-garde and experimental side of things (RIO, free jazz, avant-rock)

The Laser's Edge - http://www.lasercd.com/
More of a focus on traditional prog rock and progressive metal

Syn-Phonic - http://www.synphonic.8m.com/
The BIGGEST selection of prog rock from all over the world; also, the best service of any online music vendor I've ever used. Only problem is the online catalog is only sporadically updated, so it's always best to email to see if what you want is in stock (whether or not it's listed)

The Artist Shop - http://www.artist-shop.com/
Great selection of independent labels and artists here, not necessarily limited to progressive rock

Discipline Global Mobile - http://www.disciplineglobalmobile.com/index.htm
King Crimson's record label features a pretty solid online store

Doug Larson Imports - http://www.hicom.net/~dlarson/

http://www.cdbaby.com/ - Independent

www.etrecordshop.com - Country
www.purecountrymusic.com - Country

http://www.psyshop.com - they have psy trance CDs. Infected Mushroom, Hallucinogin, Astral projection, et al. They seem to have a good selection. Shipping took just one week from Germany to San Diego, USA via air mail (quite a ways). Seems to be a pretty reliable outlet
