Onkyo SE-90PCI Sound Card : A review
Jun 4, 2005 at 4:49 PM Post #31 of 53
So really there is no need to set a samplerate manually then. BTW, wasn't this card mean to be a cheaper alternative to the EMU 0404/1212m as it has no recording capabilities. At the moment, it is $150, not the $50 that was in the first article. Anyone know whether the price will drop when it becomes available locally? And anyone know if it'll be available in the UK too?

Has anybody been able to A/B the Onkyo card against the 0404 yet?

Anyone want to send me a free EMU-0404 so I can do A/B testing?

By placing "borrow" in quotations, are you suggesting a less than moral course of action in regards to aquiring an 0404?

That SE-90PCI card is based on the same VIA Envy24HT chipset as the M-Audio Revolution series cards, all right - but Onkyo seems to have improved its performance by using heavier-duty connectors and some beefier components. Its DAC may be the same AKM part as the Revos.

This is very interesting. Could you tell us more?

After a month of using this card, you will be much better off getting a cheap AV710 and feeding the digital out to an external DAC.

I just picked my AV710 up at NCIX here in Richmond for $25 CDN. Can't beat the price!
