Not true. Highs on DP-X1 are natural and not boosted. If Your headphone/earphones highs aren't artificial than You'll be ok.

Thanks. Sounds good.

Any issues with the 9018K2M implementation in general?
I remember DX90 and Oppo ha-2 on the same chips and I can not say that they perform great.... very average.
Let me put it this way: does the DP-X1 outperform the DX90 and Oppo ha-2? Thanks.

First thing: many people will disagree with you about Oppo HA-2 and DX90 sonic qualities, despite the DX90 bad UI. Question of taste.

Second thing: the Onkyo will have the same "house of sound" overall (transparent sound with solid bass and bright treble/mids, very different from the old warm Wolfson DACs and the more organic signature of Mojo for example), although manufacturers can tune the same DAC a bit differently.

Maybe you could say what kind of sound signature you're after, and what you would pair your DAP with, this would help.

Well, I'm fine with a sabre "house of sound", I had some devices on both mobile and standard 9018 (pha-3). If it sounds like the pha-3 in balanced mode then I'll be satisfied. Currently I own a DAP on AK4490 chip and I want to go back to either Sabre or Burr-brown, or both at the same time:)
Anyway, new pioneer xdp-300r has been ordered.

My humble opinion is that the DP-X1 is just as good as the PHA-3 balanced, now I owned the PHA-3 before I owned my current IEMs take that with a grain of salt. From memory I'd say that PHA-3 has more body and a tad more dynamics, whereas the DP-X1 has better separation and detail.

Yeah, I think that's pretty much spot on. I would add that I felt the PHA-3's highs to sounds more artificial than the DP-X1.

Thank you gentlemen for clarification.
I was also thinking about Paw Gold but the XDR-300R (a twin of DX-P1) should be a better investment from cost/value/features point of view.

The Pioneer 300R does have different looks though... Not so sure I like that. The chipped-off corner for example is useless and is only disadvantageous in use. The Pio is not the one for me, but this is a personal thing of course.

Well, I consider it as a NEW product in comparison, thinking that all possible issues with the DP-X1 (if any) were addressed and resolved with the new XDR-300R.

Hi, I recently bought the DP-X1B. The IEMs I use with it are the "Fischer Amps FA4E-XB" and I bought a balanced cable for them. I listened with it for a few weeks and I was impressed by the great soundstage but then I noticed something. After switching back to the standard cable and using the SE-Output I realized that the FA4E sounded different. With the balanced cable it's much brighter and lacks a bit of "body". Then I read in the manual that Onkyo recommends using headphones with at least 32 ohm impedance on the balanced out. The FA4E has 19 ohm. Since BAs are very picky when it comes to output impedance, it explains this behaviour. I read in this thread that there are some people here who use IEMs like the Shure SE846 which has a impedance of 9 ohm. I wonder if there are similar observations or if this is just a special behaviour of the FA4E.

Good point. I thought about it too. No low impedance IEM like Ortofon or similar.
My ER4SR are 45 ohm, one more IEM to come are 31,5 ohm - should be fine as well.
