Also another question - I'm looking for a 2.5mm balanced to 3.5mm unbalanced cable (not connector). Am I right in thinking an adaptor for a 2.5mm headset to 3.5mm stereo will also work with this? Such as this:

Thanks

Yes but its the wrong setup.  It's 2.5mm female to 3.5mm male.  You need 2.5mm Male to 3.5mm Female.

Thanks for getting back. You sure that's right- I might have not been clear. I already have an balanced cable, just want to get an adaptor for this so I can use the cable through the unbalanced port when I'm on the move (to save on battery and protect that flimsy 2.5mm port!) So wouldn't a 2.5mm female to 3.5mm male be needed?

Oh didn't know what you were doing.  But I don't think that will work as it's not balanced to balanced, I think you can ruin the X1 by using this, or you only get sound out of one side.

Someone correct me or clarify please.

The cable I require would convert from balanced to unbalanced.

Anyone else?

I bought one of these. It allows me to use my IEMs with a balanced connector on devices with a 3.5mm jack. I like it as it places less stress on the connector than a straight adapter.

This will work fine - you plug your 4-conductor TRRS headphone cable into an adapter of some kind (cable-based or just a pure connector-pair - does not matter) and it ties both of the (-) leads from the headphone cable to the earth/ground (sleeve) on the unbalanced jack. This is really all the unbalanced headphone cables do. You generally have 4-wires into the ears (2 into each ear, one for + and one for -/ground). In an unbalanced headphone cable, the (-/ground) wires from both ears are joined together either at the yoke of the cable (the split) or are soldered together to the sleeved connector of the plug. Either way, they carry the same neutral ground. This is EXACTLY what the adapter does for you.

Now - going the OTHER way is not a good thing at all...from a balanced output jack to an unbalanced headphone cable. At the least it will sound god-awful and at the worst it will ruin the equipment to boot.
