I dont see how that was rude at all. I was just stating how debates on threads like this are meaningless. I didnt want to start a war so i just ended it right there. I was being respectful by stating the truth. People have different views when it comes to audio. I dont want this thread to be clogged up by meaningless. This thread is about the DAP. Not debates. I was doing the right thing.

I agree with some of what you said, and I do know that we all try to maintain OT posts, but some diversion is inevitable and often it is quite beneficial so unless it is really going on, or has zero value, we all typically let it go up until it is an issue. I'm still not convinced that it was at intervention level, but I do still know where you are coming from. I will differ with you in that telling somebody to act their age for one thing can be construed as rude depending on the context, and I do feel that you were pretty abrupt with Joe who is a super nice guy who bends over backwards in this community and elsewhere to help people. He spends many hours answering questions and helping people with pretty complex stuff that most members here are clueless about. Anyway, I'm not trying to escalate the situation and it can just go away now, but I couldn't help but speak up in Joe's defense because he really is a decent guy who means well.

Buying on futures, or waiting for something that may never come (or may come, at an unpredictable time and cost) has a nasty habit of leading to disappointment.

The disappointment is already here in the fact that the manufacturers insist on using the micro-SD format. But I suppose that is just indicative of the low-level of demand for very high capacity cards. Hi-res DAPs are the most obvious market but I suspect the proportion of owners using 200GB cards is small, never mind higher capacities.

I expect the wait to be long

Well I can't blame you for doing that. I help my friends out to. I had the general message of respect for the thread and no one wants to see a flame war. Maybe I was a bit strong in my approach, but I never called him or his equipment a pile of ****. But everyone at Head Fi in my eyes are equal no matter how many posts they have or their connections. That's just who I am.

Excellent news, thanks for posting. Not worth upgrading from 200 - 256 for me, but hopefully 512GB (at an affordable price) won't be too far behind. In the meantime I've picked up a Meenova micro-USB micro-SD card reader and a 128GB card for 'overflow' storage.

These cards are based on a new memory technology Torq. It will unblock the current limitations and be capable of providing TB capacity cards. Time to market and cost now depends on manufacturer's manufacturing and marketing strategies.

My question is could the DP-X1 handle the double 256GB instead of only 2x 200 GB as factory default?

Can't disagree with you there.

I don't understand the manufacturer's fascination with microSD (especially single-slot implementations) ... full-size SD cards wouldn't make the player that much larger.  Does me no good if the device is a 1/4" short and 1/8" slimmer if it can't hold my library.

It also frustrates me that you'll get someone, like Calyx, do a really good storage implementation, and then not have a digital output.  Or iBasso ... who'll get everything right on the hardware side of things (despite my lack of interest in CS4398-based solutions) and then the firmware has on-going issues that would directly affect my usage to the point of making it, well, pointless.

Hopefully the FiiO T3 will get the storage right, do a proper job on the digital outputs, and have firmware that can handle the 40,000 song libraries that having an initial 1 TB of storage available for are likely to lead to.

Has anyone had issues with the 2.5mm connection cutting out?

I finally got a 2.5mm to XLR adapter yesterday and have had this issue.

After some googling I'm guessing it is a similar issue to the AK240SS where the 2.5mm is shorting to the metal plate at the top with some connectors...

I agree, I think we suffer from group think around this community, but if you actually think about it, 200GB of storage is already bigger than most people's music collections I'm sure. It is bigger than my useful collection as I have tons of stuff I may never listen to again just taking up room so even I could easily get a way with less than 200GB.

Pardon me if I'm confusing it with the sdxc card, but I may have heard of a 512 gb micro SD. I know it's kinda overkill but I searched where to buy it and nothing comes up, albeit a "generic" micro SD that Bonanza is selling. Seems pretty iffy to me. Maybe it doesn't exist yet. Any advice? I could I've sworn I've heard it from somewhere.

Vapourware. Microdia claimed that they created a 512gb mSD card, but it never made it out of their labs.

Sandisk has said 200gb currently is the physical limit of mSD cards (that's why there is no 256gb), and unless something radically changes (which they may be able to work out) 200gb is it for the near future.

I knew it was too good to be true :unamused:
