Not that I really care, but do you think the US version will have the volume cap?

I use the Heir Audio 8.0 universals (so far my favorite IEM sound of all time and I've tested everything) with E12A bass boost + X5 POP EQ setting. The bass sounds warm, full range and never harsh at all. Angels in bass. :)

I didn't use the E12A to evaluate the Onkyo DAP, just to evaluate if I could reproduce the E12A + X5 combo sweet sweet sound.

I would prefer a standalone DAP with a sweet sounding built-in AMP, rather than lug around extra devices.

This is why I have high hopes for the Fiio X7 and a medium (E12A like) AMP module. (I just hope it doesn't cost too much)

I have already verified the X7 + E12A combo matches the X5 + E12A combo sound perfectly, so I have a plan B. :)

..somebody mentioned this, but I keep forgetting that I am using an over the ear headphone (HD700), while some are using an ear phone.  No wonder
the bass needs to be boosted.

Why would it, there is no US law requiring a volume cap, that is EU specific.

What do you mean by an ear phone? Do you mean on ear, or in-ear?

I take it you are waiting for the official release in the US?

Yes because I am pretty sure Amazon will carry it, not to mention warranty.

p.s. other than XM issue, I am pretty happy with my CR-N755.  Look into it if you want a very good networked mini system.

Thanks mate, will certainly read about it. I always enjoy reading about new gear.

BTW, there is a newer version from Japan CR-N765 that is not release in the US.  The difference is that the new one has the AKM4490 and supports up to DSD128 and no XM, vs. the 755 has a Wolfson 8740 and only support DSD64 with XM (which doesn't work anymore as XM blocks it.)

Ear Phone:
an electrical device worn on the ear to receive radio or telephone communications or to listen to a radio, MP3 player, etc., without other people hearing.
just threw it out there... seems we refer to headphone, so earphone seems to fit.

I still fail to see the distinction. You mentioned earphones in a context suggesting they differed from headphones, hence my question. I take it you were simply having some fun semantically.
