Not necessarily.hilarious.
people imagine things.
W dongle dacs, changes in power delivered may change sound. It depends on some factors outside of the Dac, YMMV.

Exactly my point. It depends on outside factors and nothing to do with any firmware updates. People will say what they want to say. Hearing is subjective so who can argue with that. Not necessarily.

Sorry, I need to clarify...Exactly my point. It depends on outside factors and nothing to do with any firmware updates. People will say what they want to say. Hearing is subjective so who can argue with that.
Unless I hear it myself, I'll be the judge of it. There are just some so called audiophiles who eiither like to rub themselves constantly in snake oil or they're just simply full of bs.
Fair points. Now why would manufacturers flat out deny that their firmware updates change the sound? Is it because showing physical and scientific proof of that is extremely difficult? The context here is just limited to firmware updates and their effect on the sound signature.Sorry, I need to clarify...
There could be a difference due to a firmware change, even if its not intentional.
My point was that depending on power to the DAC, incoming signal, and of course the quality of the IEM/Headphone you could hear a difference. If you're listening casually... you may miss it. If you listen to it intently... you may hear it. Again YMMV depending on what you're connected to.
Not snake oil, or wishful thinking.
If I upgrade my iPhone 15 to iOS 18, I'll need to borrow a friend's PC unless I want to set up windows under wine or I walk down to MicroCenter and see if they'll let me do the firmware upgrade. (Yes, I have a 40yr relationship w MicroCenter and yes, I'm that old so F off and stay of my yard!)
And you're right outside factors are what is causing this.
I'm sure we're in violent agreement, except I don't like the term snake oil...
Hi, i'm a newbie & age 50 plus, i unable to listen too beyond 16kHz & above. It's normal for this kind of age?So it seems people are just imagining things. Well, that makes sense especially for older folks like me who do not effectively hear anything beyond 16khz. Unless you are not human.
You might not be able to hear beyond 16khz but if you use an equalizer to push the frequencies of a piece of music above 16khz you will hear a differenceHi, i'm a newbie & age 50 plus, i unable to listen too beyond 16kHz & above. It's normal for this kind of age?
Yup.Hi, i'm a newbie & age 50 plus, i unable to listen too beyond 16kHz & above. It's normal for this kind of age?
I bought the TC28i M2 and it works very well with the Onix (using it with the FiiO LT-TC3 USB OTG cable).Have you tried ddhifi tc28i m2?![]()
I don't think I tried going to lighting... since my macbook is usb-c and my iPhone15 is too.I bought the TC28i M2 and it works very well with the Onix (using it with the FiiO LT-TC3 USB OTG cable).
I also tested my new ddHifi MFi07S and it does not work (mosquito noise).
I will update my comparison table later: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/the-discovery-thread.586909/post-18227456
Another exceptional synergy with Dunu SA6 OG, which further confirms my initial premise regarding BA oriented tuning. The highs are crisp, juicy but never aggressive. The low range is both impactful (just the right amount AFAIC) and well present. The type of sound reminds 64 Audio house sound, which I like a lot. I've tried both U6t and U12t with a variety of devices but was never completely happy. With Onyx + Dunu SA6 OG (low latency slow filter) the sound is precisely to my liking... so far.. very liquid and engaging )) Just sharing..Hi everyone, Got the device, like the sound.. No connectivity issues so far. Got the impression that the DAC is designed with BA drivers in mind: sounds pretty good with Shure 846, which is rare.. Any other examples of good synergy with IEMs?
You are assuming you're going to have issues.
Basically, from what I've read in this thread, 100% of the Onix problems can be solved with what I usually use to make all my dongles work.
1) a high quality Y-USB type C cable (Luxury & Precision WY1)
2) a 20k power bank with a small appliance consumption detector
Now I only need the Onix... lol
Oh I agree.@smegel
I have several cell phones that support Onix but I prefer to listen to my most precious dongles when not in motion. In addition to this, I prefer to put each dongle in the best conditions to get the most out of it, because I believe they have a lot to give if used to the best of their ability. Listening to a Cayin RU7 or an ifi Go BAR connected directly to the smartphone is not the same experience you can have by separating the signal from the current and providing them with all the current they need (not to mention cleaning it). I don't think Onix is an exception... because none of my dongles can do it, not even the most energy-efficient ones. A dongle... put in the right conditions can be much more than a simple dongle... believe me.![]()
