Please execuse my inexperience with dongle DACs...

Do they usually have frequent FW updates to address different issues, and users have to be very careful with different versions, as compatability/sound/etc can change? Another factor that can cause issues (or you could say solve issues) is the cable. You can play around with different cables and see how they work. The whole process may be fun to some, but I prefer just enjoy the dongle and not have to worry about other things in the back of my mind: if I upgrade to a new FW version/use a different device/OS/a different cable, the sound may change and/or the DAC may not work at all.

Are all dongle DACs like this??

Seeing where we are, I'd like to say the "correct" answer is 'yes'.

But deep down, I know most of the time it's just in our heads. You don't have to worry about it, as long as your device isn't bricked or stops working. Also, if it ain't broke, why fix it, right?

(In case you can't tell from my reply, I don't subscribe to the 'cable mat'l makes the sound different' theory. To me, as long as they are properly spec-ed, they should all work the same, especially when we're talking about digital data (USB).)

Two? Ok...I'm fighting hard about asking why do you have two of them...

But I have to ask...
You heard the snap-crackle-pop on the windows 11 after the upgrade?
Is this where you unloaded the audio driver?
(I've never tried to uninstall a driver on my Mac or iPhone.... )

I didn't upgrade my iPhone15 to iOS18 because I don't know what garbage Apple put in it... (spyware/AI) so I haven't needed to upgrade the firmware which IIRC would require a windows PC. (I run mac desktops w Linux servers.)
But on my Mac, I use the MIDI app to boost the output to the Alpha.

So I am curious about the upgrade.
If you go to iOS18... the issue is that the gain increases on the output from the iPhone? Is that the problem they are trying to fix?
I have two of them so I can keep one at work and one at home. But yes the audio issues were caused by the windows audio driver, i simply went into device manager and uninstalled the drivers. As far as i am aware the IOS 18 issue is when the IOS device is controlling the volume, increasing the volume 6 steps causes the volume to go to max essentialy blowing your eardrums out and or ruining your headphones/earbuds.

If you have the original firmware before 1.1 then you would also gain a number of optimizations and compatibility fixes as well as dsd512. So it might be worth updating for that.

As far as IOS 18 spyware is concerned big brother is already watching you and so is China your only option would be to move in the midle of nowhere and get rid of all technology. China has been caught putting remote listening and remote controll devices in almost everything they make. They even found 5g remote controll devices in our crains in one of our major shipping ports that would have allowed china to shut down the crains remotely essentialy shutting the port down. Apple products are manufactured in china so dont doubt it one bit that china has the ability to tap into every apple device made in the past 4 or 5 years.

Essesntialy yes Dongle DACs are like this there are SO many devices that someone might plug a dongle dac into and expect it to work. IOS devices MAC desktops and laptops android phones from dozens if not hundreds of manufacturers Windows desktop and laptop PCs and also cant forget Linux devices as welll. This makes dongle DACs a little more complicated as far as compatibility is concerned vs your standard desktop DAC that typically is only ever going to be plugged into a Windows desktop PC or a MAC PC.

For some reason if i allow Eddict app to access to xi1 after i plug it into my phone the sound only play through my phone speaker (the phone still display playing through wired headphone), if i'm denny Eddict app access request then the sound play through the dongle like normal, my phone is xiaomi K20 pro, already tried stock cable, 1 oem c-c cable and 1 handmade cable, all of them have that same issue, is it because of the app itself?

Cracking / Popping sound with Onix Alpha.
Phone: OnePlus 12
Player: UAPP, Hiby

Anyone has figured any workaround for this or similar issue?

I have disabled always on display, and tried put phone on airplane mode as well
I have this same issue on my OnePlus 12.
-I have the latest OS updates on the phone and the latest Onix firmware.
-I have cables that have a lot of crackling/popping and less so with others. The stock Onix cable has the issue. All cables work fine with my other three dongles.
-The issue does not happen when using the device connected to my PC.

@Shanling Can you please work with OnePlus/Oppo to find the issue and resolve it? I can provide any debugs or logs that you need.

Did you have the issue w the dac before you upgraded the firmware?

More discoveries. I found out how to put the DAC into UAC1.0 mode. The music plays correctly. No pops or cracks. I also found out that if I play high rez audio in UAC2.0 mode, 24/96 for example, the dongle switches up to 384khz. It's not using the sample rate of the song. If I play a song that is 16/44.1 the dongle gets 24/48 which is the Android standard bit and sample rate. Another weird issue is that in UAC1.0 mode, the dongle does track the song's sample rate correctly. I've seen this same issue, compeletely unrelated to be clear, on my computer where if I set my desktop dac(not the dongle) to a fixed high sample rate of 384khz, but the content I play cannot do 384khz, I get the same clicking.

Edit: Tested with my Xduoo Link 2 Bal that shows different lights for sample rate. It correctly tracks the sample rates of the songs in UAC 2.0 mode without the clicks/pops.

Edit2: I tested with my wife's Pixel 7. Playing high res music in UAC 2.0 the dongle detects the sample rate correctly.

I have no idea if it's the phone or the dongle at this point.

@Shanling can you please help out on this issue? What do I need to do to make an official bug report?
