OMG I'm lightly shocked by what Andy replied when comparing Onix XL1 to some desktop dac/amps.

That's crazy. I love my Playmate 2 with V7 op-amps, it would be pretty cool to have a similar quality experience with my phone and Steam Deck. The only other "dongle" I've used was the Qudelix 5K and it wasn't a desktop replacement, not by a long shot.

Has someone tested Onix with ~ 16ohm/94dB IEMs ? I'm curious about background noise. Is there any hiss with that sensitivity or just dead background ?

Update : With LG V40 not enough power from USB to drive Onix.

@Shanling -Came across a strange condition while using today. I don't remember the exact sequence of events, but I basically locked the screen, and it prevented me from access to the menu functions manually. I think a double press of the button released it. Is double press a screen lock feature? At first, I thought the unit had failed, but with anger and panic as a motivator I managed to get the device back in working order

Spoke too soon. I am back in that condition again; screen goes blank and will not turn on at all until it is disconnected and reconnected. Then it goes back to a blank screen
It seems there is something a miss with the menu button. If I connect and let it sit untouched it goes into screen saver mode. As soon as the menu button is touched the screen goes blank

Final update - Sending this back for a refund. Not happy with this failing with a few hours of light use.

Simply:

All units released to our official international sellers are already coming with firmware V1.0.3 and there is no overall problem (apart from the small amount of phones we are checking on).

If your unit has firmware V1.0.2, contact your seller for replacement unit.

So, with USB Control not working in iOS, iPhone users won’t be able to take full advantage of XI1 (gain, digital filter, channel balance, ao). I wish this piece of information had been mentioned before I ordered a few days back. I was under the impression Eddict Player was all that was needed, the full usage scenario was one of my main reasons for choosing XI1 rather than one of the competitors.

This is due to limitations put in place by Apple and has been same for all Shanling UA models for years, so it also affects ONIX XI1.

But given the XI1 has screen with access to all settings, you don't need the app at all.

Double press does not wake up unit. There is an issue with this, and I will need to return it for refund as you suggested

Finally got a reliable solutions for the connection problem. I need to use Fiio LT-TC5. Although there's still problems, volume level got lowered, i need to crank up few more clicks for same listening level, and now it sucks battery like thirsty camel.

Still waiting for firmware update for all of this connection woes.

The battery isn't great though. Drains up the source (android phone) pretty quickly. Thought this would last much longer. Is it due to the new firmware? Will there be any updates to rectify this? I am on low gain and volume 30-40....
What's the expected hours of battery? Andy had said 10, iirc.. Don't think I get more than 4. Will check again today, unless it caliberates initialy days and settles down in a week or so?
Anyone else with this issue, you guys getting decent hours in with this?

ha ha, well played Shanling! I mean its draining capacity of the source. in my case an Android phone. I am not getting as many hours as the reviews had said. Of course it would vary with what I am doing with the phone at the same time etc, but even in that usecase, one gets a fair idea. For eg: my DC03 pro, has almost minimal impact on the phone draining.

We have no specification on expected battery life of phones, as there are way too many variables in that.

Вчера забрал свой оникс, отлично работает с redmi note 8pro, hiby r2 & r3pro и пк на любом кабеле. Прошивка 1.0.3 Звук нейтральный с немного смягченными серединой и высокими частотами. Использую наушники juzear 41t, sound rhyme sr5, epz k5, epz q1pro, artti r2, beyerdinamic dt 770pro. Больше всего мне понравился звук sound rhyme sr5 и q1pro, но несмотря на очень хорошее разрешение, для меня звуку не хватает энергии и напора.

По вашему описанию создаётся впечатление что свисток лучше всего играет со спокойными жанрами, наверное джаз подходит самое лучшее к нему? Я тоже его заказал жду когда придёт проверю со своими sr5 и также с несколькими полноразмерными наушниками

Of course UAC couldn't do anything with it. This has only happened on the Lenovo tablet so far.
