Not really. Dolby Headphone and CMSS-3D work on any headset.

Just buy a better card or DAC and start building a good audio system.

The answer is simple: get whatever gives more improvement for the same money. If the onboard audio is competently implemented and used (quite often neither is the case, though), it is very likely that upgrading the $5 headphones will make a far greater difference.

Well things like G.Sniper are great ideas. However as said, that adds noise to the sound and honestly it doesn't cost much to get a X-fi. So maybe sound cards would still be a better choice right now.
