old vs new dt-880

Well that's interesting. So it would seem they are, indeed, different sonically. We need someone to get both this 2007 pro version and the regular 2005 non-pro and do a side-by-side comparison

I vote you do it, since you're torn between the two

I thought this was crystalclear, that they where identical sonically. Well we definitely need to investigate more into this

If anyone could shred some light in this it would be much appreciated.

email the folks at Beyerdynamic. Thats what I did and thats what they told me
I should also say that I am very happy with the 880 Pro's.

Still no answer from Beyerdynamic, I hope they are not on vacation or something like that, since it is around summer time in Germany. Anyway, is there really no one here on this forum that have tried the new DT880 PRO (2007 version and can compare them to the 2005 version ?

I must buy headphones as soon as possible, but I do not feel like waiting for weeks and weeks, just to get it confirmed how they sound like compared with each other.

ok guys.. I bought DT880 PRO (2006 version) Today from Thoman.

After been reading this forum I did learn some new things, such as "burn in" I understand it is very important, however, when I receive my headphones, I do not feel like burning them in for like 300-400 hours while listen, I heard some new concepts such as "pink noise" can someone explain this for me ?
Is this some kind of special audio which will burn in the headphones especially good better then usual audio ???

And is it ok to burn them in 24/7 ?

"The DT880s have a phenomenal sound stage to complement their phenomenal sound. No other model in this price range offers the incredible immersion and three dimensional projection that the Beyers present. Music seems to hit you from every direction at once and if you close your eyes, you can visualise yourself watching the song live."

For me, the first 100 hours were critical with my '03 model. They really need time to burn in. Pink noise is the noise you approximate with the one hear at the radio when there's no station on. You have the definition and a sample here > Pink noise - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ! Pink noise is also used for equalizing and time aligning SQ sistems in cars where drivers are found at different distances from the listener !

I noticed very little change in mine (were brand new). They sounded fantastic upon first listen, and still sound fantastic 1000+ hours later.

There's a 'headphone burn-in' sticky here which should explain the pink noise method of burn-in. I vote you just put them on and get lost in the music, though.

Thanks for the info guys, I think I will burn them in the first thing I do, to get the ultimate first experience with these headphones, they should arrive at my desk this Friday!

I humbly disagree. IMHE the DT880/03 has much deeper bass, whereas the DT880/05 has more upper bass. In addition, I thought that the high frequency performance of the DT880/05 left much to be desired; they had nowhere near the extension, clarity and airiness of the DT880/03. In short, the DT880/05 sounds tragically rolled off at both extremes compared to the '03 model.

While the DT880/05 did address what I felt were deficits in the lower mids and, to a lesser extent, upper bass of the '03 model, the '05 re-design came at the expense of what I liked most about the DT880Pro/03: effortlessly extended highs and plowing deep bass. By comparison, the '05 model sounds bland w/nothing to recommend . . . at least from me. : )

Anyway, I have since been won over to the K701, but often think about a second go-round w/the DT880/2003.

The differences are nowhere near as enormous as your describing, at least in my opinion.

I listened to the '03, but I still like my '05s better. Although I wouldn't be disapointed if I had to own the '03s because they are so similar.
