interesting, has there been any reports on here about that "normalizer"?

Be patient, some guys already got itching on them.

The reason is that happy DT880 '05 owners are satisfied so don't need changes, while unhappy owners were so disappointed that they sold the DT880's quickly.

Majkel,
We'll see! The 325i should be coming in a couple of weeks. Right now, I'm informally a/b-ing the SR-225 and MS-2. : )

Keep in mind, too, that my bias toward the K701 means the RAL-recabled version of the K701; a slightly different--and certainly "better" to my ears--animal from the stock version.

Last week, I unofficially denounced any further experimentation with Sennheiser HDxxx. Of course I've dismissed recourse the DT880/2005 with even greater resolve. : )

The Beyer DT880Pro/2003 is the only headphone nagging me for a second audition right now, but it may be awhile--since I've been twice bitten (and am soon to be thrice bitten) by Grado. Last week a pair of pre-2005 DT880 (I'm not sure whether they were the DT880 Pro or the original DT880) went for $85 on AudiogoN, so I missed a golden opportunity.

Meanwhile, Happy Listening! : )

I have no experience with the modern DT-880s but I do with the 80's version (which I had re-cabled). I can assure you it sounds glorious and punches well above its asking price. I definitely prefer it well over the Sextett which fetches a higher price and which I consider technically inferior to these. Whoever won these DT-880s got a heck of a deal.

It all depends on what you like in regards to mids, highs, and bass. The only way is to read the 880 03 vs 880 05 link, and other threads. Even then you truly won't know until you hear both in your setup or side by side. I'm not saying that you need to have both cans to make a decision, but with buying cans it's a leap of faith if you never heard either the DT880 03 or 05 edition. I've brought cans just by reading what others comment on them, but also on identifying with certain other HF members that have the same taste as me

. Most times that works for me in identifying if I might like a can without hearing them, but in the end you'll just have to hear them and make your own conclusions.

Good luck on your headphone journey.

do you think the difference in clamping force (PRO > 05) makes a big difference in comfort? the 770 PRO has the same clamping force as the 880 PRO and I haven't read much regarding discomfort with any of them. Is this an issue?

I've got the 2003 but had them recabled by Moon Audio with a 3 m. length of Blue Dragon cable. May want to check this out, or contact Drew. Made my Beyers sing a little better

O and drive them with Tomahawk or Portaphile so they can definitely be used with portable amps

You made a good choice. I was given a chance to choose between the standard 2005 edition and the Pro edition, and I chose the Pro's due to more direct and involving soundstage and imaging. I'm not sure if there is a tonal difference between Pro and non-Pro 2005 edition. I haven't observed any.

Thank you majkel. You ease my mind, since my dt 880 PRO's are on their way. I emailed Beyerdynamic and they responded within 12 hours. This was my question:

Mitteilung:
Is the increase in clamping force an issue regarding pain and discomfort when you compare the dt880pro with the dt880 05 edition? Otherwise they seem to be the same to me.
Thank you
E Gil

Hello:
The clamping for of the DT 880 Premium (previous model 2005 Edition) is 2.8N. The DT 880 Pro is 3.5N. These are approximate. This a matter of personal preference.
The audio components and drivers are the same in both models.
The headband components are different.
The Premium has a straight cable and the Pro is coiled.
The MSRP is the same for both models.
Both include a leather carrying case.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

I am one moseclick away to buy a pair of DT880, but I really need to know which version to buy, the price is the same for both phones,
despite a very few people, who agree the 03 DT880, the big majority seem to agree that the 2005 version is an improvement. I also heard people talking about the "2006" version is that = PRO version ?

However, I need to know, which version is the best, even though it is said that should sound identical, and that it is the same headphone it is never true!
So I wonder, what is the difference in sound with 2005 VS PRO ?
What version is to prefer and why ?

I also did notice, only the PRO version is listed on the Beyerdynamic product page...

Also any idea of how good it will work with my amp Go-VIBE V7 ?

The non-pro has a straight cable, a different headband, and supposedly doesn't grip as quite as hard as the pro. Apart from the cosmetic differences (colors of grill and the yoke thing) I think they're sonically the same.

They'll work fine with a Go-Vibe, though you won't really see their true potential unleashed until you pair them with a nice desktop amp (and probably a tube-amp, at that). I ran mine out of a go-vibe v5 w/ the el pac psu for over a year and was quite pleased.
