I think you'll find that the old stereotypes are changing. Budweiser is going by the wayside and more and more micros and craft brewers are gaining popularity. Like it or not, I believe Sam Adams has to be given partial credit for this shift in taste. Lately, if you ask my friends what their favorite beers are, they are all beers with flavor.

The last 10 days I've had some awesome beer

Darkhorse:
Crooked Tree IPA
Double Crooked Tree
Perkulator Coffee Dopplebock
Plead the 5th Imperial Stout
Tres Blueberry Stout

Bell's:
Third Coast Old Ale
Hopslam
Batch 9000
Expedition Stout


Everyone of those are worth trying if you ever see it, with Third Coast being the only one that isn't amazing. My favorite two are probably the Double Crooked Tree and Expedition Stout (Batch 9000 is close)

Fullers London Pride ( 4.7% ABV)
- Kinda has a apple juice smell to it
- Doesn't taste like apple juice at all...abit more like a light watery malty beer
- Aftertaste also has the watery maltyness
- Clean, clear, albeit watery malty taste
- Not sure if I would buy it again, 5/10

Ordered straight from Brewdog. (If they still have any of the first 250 bottles) it's $120 for a single or $180 for 2 (shipping is a KILLER). If they're into the last 250 bottles I'm pretty sure it's going to more then triple the cost.

Yea, TNP. Batch #3 so I don't have to worry about the exploding bottles

It's 11.4oz of beer and it is out of this world but I really like beer and this is something that I HAD to have so I was going to do whatever it takes. They wouldn't sell it to any retailers so I had to give my money straight to them (although I would have rather given it to my local beer man).


Today:

Haven't had anything decent in quite a while. Decided that with this nice day I was going to crack open the "cellar" and pull something out. The only thing I could justify (too many limited editions and hard to find beers) was this:

2008 Vintage Schlafly Reserve

Opened it and it was an amazing smell that consisted of vanilla, oak, and roasted malt. It poured very dark with less then a finger of tannish colored head. The first taste surprised me as it was a very light (mouthfeel) for an imperial stout and the bourbon did not stick out at first. It was very smooth with all the smells I previously mentioned being converted into tastes. It warmed up after the first swallow and you could pick up hints of bourbon and the alcohol was more noticeable.

If I can find more at G&G I will def. buy another 08 vintage to age as I would LOVE to see this open up in a year or two.

i really love Bell's...it's probably the best beer you can get that is from around here. i like stuff with a real kick, IPAs, stouts, that sort of thing.

Fuller's London Porter (5.4% ABV)
- Not much aromatics, mebby dark smokey malts...but not much
- Dark, semi-burnt/smokey flavor...a bit different
- Aftertaste has same characteristics..
- Not good, but not bad..odd burnt/smokey flavor .. 6/10

Der Hirsch-Brau: Holzar Bier Bavarian
- Light sweet aromatics...like honey and apples
- Mmmm, semi-sweet, semi-tangy, kinda honey-apple flavors
- This is a lager, so for me it's a bit hard to distinguish the tastes
- I am getting to like this one, its nice & easy to drink
- I'd get it again for sure 7.5/10

New Belgium: Abbey Belgian Style Ale (7% ABV)
- Sweet banana & lemon type aromatics
- Hmmm, semi-bitter/tart, banana & lemon zest, some caramel too
- Medium-light body feel, it has a fast CO2 feel to, gets bubbly, but goes away fast
- Aftertaste has trails of coriander & slighty nutty
- Abit odd for me, taste is good & not bad, but not quite my thing..7/10

New Belgium: Trippel Ale Brewed with Coriander (7.8% ABV)
- Very very light aromatics, can't tell what they are
- Coriander, with bits of tangy citrus falvors
- Tangy-bitter aftertaste, trails off with coriander
- Light-medium feel, CO2-y but goes away fast, just like the Abbey
- Hmm, these Abbey/Belgian styles are not really my thing, its good but mot my thing
- I might get it again, 6.5/10

I have like 20 different types in my beer fridge (yes I do have a beer fridge)

I'm surprised so little original belgians beers are discussed actually.
My fav ones are Duvel and Leffe, but nothing beats a Duvel, mmm.
