I've gotten a recommendation for this before. I guess I'll have to try it.
It turns out, I'm a huge IPA fan. I'm newer to the world of high-end beer here, but I was recently introduced to a local shop, "The Vintage Cellar" that stocks loads of superb beers and high-end wines. And man, I could just walk through that store and soak it all in for hours.
So far, the best beer I've ever had was one I had several recommendations for. It's the Bell's "Two Hearted Ale". Keep your eyes out for this one. It's one of the best beers, if not the best beer I've ever had! The Stone IPA is quite good, but it's just simply not as good, in my opinion.
Other good ones as of late:
--Stone "Ruination" IPA - this is a solid DIPA. Not very complex, but good nonetheless.
--Sam Adams Cream Stout - I was surprised. Sam's put out a pretty solid beer here. There are better cream stouts, but this stuff is very widely available.
--Highland "Gaelic Ale" - I'm impressed. Well-rounded, easy-going beer.
--Stone "Levitation" - I'd call this a brown ale, even though it's technically a red ale. It's a lighter "session" beer, but wow, it's just not bad at all.
Bad ones as of late:
--Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA - Avoid this beer for now. I was very impressed by their 90 minute IPA, but this isn't even close, and it tastes kinda funky, like that bad wheat taste you get in a coor's or natural light. Might have just been a bad batch.
--Sam Adams Octoberfest - Utterly boring beer that isn't even up to par with the Boston Lager. The Harpoon Octoberfest is much better.
