Subtlely and sarcasm do not translate well on the internet.  As far as I can tell that link is to the ipod.
 
Those do have a nice user interface; though itunes drives me batty sometimes.
 
The FIIO sounds better however and plays more file types.

Last update (v3.24b) wasn't that long ago, so no its not frozen. 

 
Just be patient.

The post you refer to was made pre 3.22 and 3.24. There was a long stretch of no communication before those turned up
