Official HIFIMAN HE1000 Impressions Thread

I just experienced something strange. I've been listening to my new Sennheiser ie800 for some days now, they have great resolution and just sounds great for iem. And when I put on my HE1000V2 now they sounded so strange and kind of muffled like the singer was sitting inside a box. It kind of got a little better after a couple of minutes. But I don't understand this. Very confused now. Could it be because i got used to the sound of the ie800? And maybe need some time to adjust to the hek again?

I didn't hear IE800 before but as my experience to Shure KSE1500 (Electrostatic in-ear TOTL), HE1000 v2 is relatively picky for sources, especially for their powering.
A proper source will make HE1000 V2 EXTREMELY transparent with much much micro-details than any system I've ever heard ( Yes, I'm even comparing HE-1000 V2 with a very Hi-end Loudspeaker reference system with main towers and subwoofer towers).

Maybe you could start with adjust the combination from sources. This is just my harmony opinion.

BTW, I think the earpads of HE1000 V1 and V2 are the weak points for transparency and coloring.
I think there are many defects in stock earpads. If any one could build a modded earpads, it would help A LOT on SQ then implementing tape mod on them.

It is not unusual to notice a difference when switching between IEMs and headphones.  Your brain adapts to one sound and then has to re-adapt when you change systems.  In my experience, the HE1000 (either version) sounds much better than my Noble K10 CIEMs.  If listen only to the K10s for a couple of days, they sound much better than when I go back and forth with the HE1000.

Your experience seems the opposite of what I would normally expect, but that doesn't mean something is wrong.  As long as the HE1000 returns to 'normal' for you, I don't think there is anything to worry about.

I've had the same feelings of Roybenz an all magnetoplanars, it's like the singer has something in his throat.

Thats a good way to describe it :) Its i think its very strange...

I'm having the same experience...i recently got the Campfire Vega IEM. They sound absolutely incredible. I never knew an IEM could have so much body, thickness, mass, physicality, solidity, clarity and punch. It doesn't matter which headphone (HD800, T1, HE-500) i use to compare. When going back & forth the headphones all sound softer, less dynamic, lacking contrast and tightness. They sound sort of 'looser' and the sound stage isn't quite filled up. It takes a few minutes for the headphones to sound good again. But boy oh boy those Vegas are truly remarkable!

Has anyone upgraded the stock HEKv2 cable?

This one looks reasonable for a pure silver version.

Anyone bought one for their HEK v2.? I wouldn't spend more than a few 100 for a cable. If there isn't a real world noticeable improvement I would pass.

I'm running a Norne S2 with HE1KV2 - stellar cable. Quite a bit more expensive though. Stock cable is pretty good IMO - but sonics can be improved with a cable upgrade. Take care though - not all silver cables perform in a similar fashion, and are generally to be avoided if your chain tends toward bright.

No experience with Lavricables though.

My review is here. I'm fine with the stock cable as far as sound goes.

I'm actually agreed with him as well.  Silver Dragon isn't any better but just different sounding.  I would suggest the Silver Dragon if your system is too warm to begin with.
