Obscure Chinese DAPs

This looks pretty cool. I have the Tempotec V6 and love it.
It looks like a non-Android, slightly more compact version of the V6: very similar audio (except 2x OPA1652 vs. 2x OPA1612 on the V6), same power. It’s probably running Hiby OS, so not unlike a high-power version of the Hiby R3. But it’s still big!

It looks like a Zishan with a proper OS and playback software. I'm going to keep my eyes on it and hope one of use takes one for the team and we can get ours questions about it answered.

Zishan Z4...884mW on 4.4 mm

TempoTec V3...610mW on 4.4 mm

Hiby3 II...280mW on 4.4 mm

If I haven't bought and am waiting for Hiby5 gen2 to come...I would probably get this one. Who knows, I still might :)

I already have Z4, and I love it.

Cheers!

XuelinClear.jpg

Recently I received something unexpected - a Xuelin Clear digital audio player, which I'm currently in the process of reviewing.

This is the first non Android-based player I've used in a number of years and it's led to me re-discovering my FLAC & DSD album collection anew.

More importantly, this diminutive 157 gram DAP sounds superb - far beyond what I expected, in fact to my ears it's much more impressive sonically than my Astell & Kern SR35 which is absolutely no slouch and twice as expensive. I hope to have the full review up in a week or two. :relaxed:

That's the one... does it have a Line Out?

EDIT: Ah, no, doesn't look like it.

Figured someone should compare the Z4 to the Z5, will write up a proper comparative review when they both arrive

Just opened up the faudio t3. The construction is interesting. Those battery have the thickest ever leads I have seen i a while. Also the SOC has its named engraved out initially I thought it might be some thermal tape, BUT NOPE! the removed the socs information, all I know is it's more likely not a ingenic x1000e as this boi has a seperate 64mb dram chip (the ingenic one has that integrated. The pcb is of a decent quality but you can tell where all they cut corners, the pcb isn't gold plated, I am assuming lead free solder. Other thing to note, it really does have 2 ess chips though it's name is way to hard to read. The Bluetooth chip seems to be from Qualcomm from what I could read ( it did say CSR from what I could read) . There is a bunch of electrolytic caps of 10 uF (not sure why they didn't go mlcc for them) they might be the output caps so perhaps the amp chips are dc coupled or perhaps these are just for decoupling.
And there seems to be a bodge if sorts which is the best indicator this is from a smaller brand!
Some subjective notes
The soldering quality isn't that good, some aspects are clearly hand soldered but they weren't done so properly, like for example ny power switchs one side isnt soldered completely. Also they are using some no clean flux which is cool, but that does look less nice.
All in all pretty nice. Those some critique is there for certain aspects.

That's the Xuelin Clear - a tiny 157 gram player I've just reviewed, and I'm a bit shocked at how good it sounds. You're invited to discover why here.

There's definitely a Line Out mode? How does it work? I don't see any specs or mention of it on product pages.

There's a Line Out mode in the settings menu, but it doesn't seem to affect the 4.4mm jack.
