Did you get the full price declared on the parcel or was it a USD 20 or 30, as done by most Aliexpress sellers ?
If they put the full price on it I would have to pay taxes and that I would have mentioned.
So; it's just like AliExpress. All of it.
Which means check out the seller. The Joy Collection seller is from JoyBuy itself so that's safest I'd reckon and that's also where these cheap DAP's are sold by.

I always seem to get $10 on most my packages or less keeping under the customs threshold

Some ALIEXPRESS sellers won't cover for you and will declare the full value anyways, it was quite frustrating that I couldn't order a Mi Max 2 phone from there because of this....

I hope that your purchases will work okay in there!

JoyBuy is offering the ShanLing M5 for about €230,- ($272.-) and from what I've read here and there it's an excellent player.
Any people here can give some advice as to go for it or better go for something else in this price range?
I want neutral sound. Not dark and not overly bright.

B.t.w. for that money I also can have a refurbished LG V20.
Was looking at the Shanling M5 on Joybuy too. Unfortunately if you look closely its stated as 'out of stock'.

Last week I was asking for information to Joybuy customer service about the declared shipped value, and they told me they must declare the full amount. This is the reason why I was holding off ordering the M2s. But with the good news from above, maybe I can jump in.

Nope, they still have the blue one in stock (give it a second to update when you select blue).

I can't give guarantees but even IF you have to pay taxes it's still cheaper.

Yep, Like AliExpress and eBay, JoyBuy is a marketplace site too that offers some guarantees. It's always a bit of a gamble but I have ordered over a 200 times on eBay, AliExpress and others, there is always a small risk that something goes wrong or you have to pay taxes.

See it as a gamble with a 98% winning chance ;)

Well, there are actually quite few eBay sellers who currently have the M2s for $160, so it's only $10 more than Joybuy. When I get hit by customs, it usually starts with a $25 "customs handling fee" (I call it the "entry fee") + tax on top of it. So it could be cheaper to go the eBay way.

In the meanwhile I keep on thinking about buying the AP200. I will probably skip the M2s and go for the Hidizs.

Sounds like you have it fairly good then!

I'll have both and compare them soon. M2s seems interesting, and having AP200, I can say that it is quite worth it, really nice and energetic sound. There are a few glitches at the moment, but they haven't released the customer versions of the AP200, so I am holding before oficially reviewing AP200

A reply to my own message:
I see that JoyBuy has the Lotoo PAW 5000 for US$174.- / €147,-

After reading all the reviews for the Lotoo I'm quite interested. There aren't many reviews to be found for the Shanling M5 but it seems a step higher. The features like being able to function as a DAC and such don't interest me much. I'm purely focussed on sound quality.

Any remarks on this? Is theM5 much better than the PAW 5000?
I want a good step up from the Shanling M1, Hidizs AP60 and the likes but ofcourse I want the most bang (boom, squeek?) for the buck.
I like loads of detail and soundstage esp.and a neutral to analytic sound.

Any tips, thoughts are very welcome.
