Number of CD/LP in your collection

I was upto 300 CDs at one time, now I'm down to around 50. I wasn't listening to most of it, so I sold them at a garage sale, then traded or gave away what ever was left... I'm about practicality, not really a collector.

I only collect things I actually want to listen to, not just for the sake of collecting. But I've been on a paring down stage, too. I've figured that I have more stuff than I can listen to for the rest of my life, which is ridiculous.

But that decision is also partly the result of ebay. On one hand, I can now find copies of things that used to take years of looking, so I'm less nervous that I'll get rid of something and never find it again if I regret the decision. The other hand is that stuff that the used CD/record store would offer .50 of $1.00 for on trade in (I'd sooner forego .50 and give a good but common album to a friend), I can sell on line and get $3 to $15 for, a big difference when multiplied by 50 or 100 items.

Still, just 50? I don't know how I'll get down below 1000. I go through the shelves to pick out things I don't really like, and I find so little.

BMG is pretty decent... their "12 free CDs for 1CD" is a pretty decent deal, comes out to about $6/cd... and most of their CDs are ~$10 since they give you all these discounts all the time...

*raises hand* I'm a member of BMG. I think they offer some really good deals, but many times I'm too impatient to wait for their dog slow deliveries so I just buy locally. Instant gratification.

Yeah i used BMG for a while, cleaned house, picked up cds dirt cheap, thats before their shipping prices got too expensive for my tastes.

....well, not really....

Its just that during the late 80's-early 90's there classical selections and "recommended recordings" were less than great. Jazz was OK and there rock selections were good.

Its just I find that most of the stuff I have that I could easily live without came from BMG. They just feed your impulsiveness with hype and the fact that you don't have to pay for it until next month (almost as bad as a credit card

). I still buy from them through a friend, but only stuff that I'm already looking for and only if its on one of their big sales (i.e. less than $8 including S&H).

YMMV

LP's about 45 mostly from the 60s and early 70s.

CD's about 250 at least that was the count before my college bound son raided them a few years back.

Figured that had to be it. That picture of Mel Gibson is on the Soundtrack cover. That soundtrack is one of my favorites.

(...now if I could just find the soundtrack to Hunt for Red October... )

Mine, too. Of course, I also love Scottish and Celtic music

I also have "More Music From Braveheart" which includes more music not on the original, some traditional Scottish pieces, and some of the regular score with voice-overs. Sometimes the voiceovers are cheezy, but sometimes they're used to good effect.

Hope you didn't mean that literally? Some of those old 8-tracks are becoming collectors pieces in the right circles.

Can't say that the sound quality of 8-track is stunning in anyway but they certainly provide for some interesting conversation at times.

Sound as ever
