Nuforce HEM Discussion & Impressions

Just received the HEM6! Too early to post impressions, but the big surprise for me is that I like them best with the Sony Hybrid tips that I never thought I would use and hated them with SpinFits. What a world...

I use spinfits on HEM6.

Also the sound changed since I last reviewed.  I took out the Etymotic filters, and put back in the original, the treble got too much weirdly.  The mids still veiled.  These are fine for my use, but I think next time I'll stick to Shure, SE535 some say are overrated, but definitely to me better than HEM6 by a good margin.

The sound of HEM6 I would best describe as, NuForce is at war with mids.  They made it their mission to hide mids.  Mids are their sworn enemy.

I haven't heard the HEM6, but I had a pair of the SE535 very nice but were to sensitive for use with my oppo dac and i heard a constant hiss,so i sold them and tried out a pair of the HEM8, just as good and not as sensitive so no more hissing noise. I have an extra pair of HEM8 brand new in the box for sale if anyone is interested.

I recently picked up a pair of HEM8s on a good discount. First listening to them, the bass, soundstage and detail immediately stood out as strengths, but I found them overall to be a bit on the warm side for my taste. It was a little strange as the highs and midshipmen's to some extent where recessed, but the detail was still there. Everything seemed overly smooth, especially electric guitars didn't have the bite I'm used to and vocals seemed a little distant.

I removed the stock filters as some others here suggested, and that seemed to really open up the highs bring out the sparkle. I tried the etymotic green filters, but those were too warm, similar to the stock filters. Then I tried the etymotic white filters and those tamed the highs just a little without making them too warm. I'm really enjoying these now with the etymotic white filters, I definitely recommend them if you find the signature with the stock filters too warm.

Glad you found a mod that brought out the best on them for your tastes

Thanks, I ordered a set of HEM8. Hopefully I like them, reviews seem to be all over the place.
