The upgraded power supply has two DC outputs (default 15V, can be changed to 12V) and a usb to coax/optical converter built in which does not need external power to function.

The DAC-100 is not compatible with the DC outputs since it uses an IEC inlet for AC power, but it can accept the digital inputs for the dac.

Ok now I understand. I think I've read this thread a few too many times lol

It's interesting... I've taken pictures of the innards of the DAC/HAP-100 but haven't posted a link to the galleries, yet they've had several hundred views already. Hmm.

Some of those views were me. Not all of them, but probably a few dozen at least.

We just completed the design of UDH-100 ($695) - this is the same performance level as DAC-100 but without the SPDIF inputs.
We have not decided to release UDH-100 yet.
I don't think it make sense to get rid of the headphone amp, because many people are satisfied with the performance of DAC-100 headphone amp. Come on, base on the feedback so far, it is incredibly good.

IMO
It's bogus for a company to leave a product (UDH-100) on their web site but not offer it for sale.
I looked everywhere to buy this product until I found this post....From September.

While annoying, Nuforce is not the only company to do this. I'm sure part of it is just the hype/advertising effect.

Looking at yours Armaegis, I think I may regret getting the silver DAC-100. I was about to buy the black one, but since I normally go for black if I have the choice between white/silver or black, I wanted to shake things up this time.

I think from a distance the silver is more striking. The black one looks nice up close, but from further away it looks featureless (though not as blank as the HAP-100). The texture also has a weird habit of scratching, but not in the way you think. The finish feels moderately smooth, but actually acts like a fine sandpaper. I thought my nails were scratching the paint around the volume knob, but then I realized it was actually my nail that was leaving traces behind on the finish. Quite visible on black; probably not so on silver. It wipes off easily enough with your finger though, so it's not really an important point.

are you getting a UDH-100? I just ordered one on amazon. I really wish there was a review or something because besides this thread, there is really no mention at all of the UDH-100 besides Nuforce's website which does not give a whole lot of info. I was deciding between the UDH-100 and the CA DACmagic+ but decided on the better UDH-100. I have a icon HDP that I am going to use for my turntable instead since I'll be losing my borrowed vintage HK 430 receiver. I mainly use USB with my HDP and sometimes Optical for 24/192 and  Schiit Valhalla for amp with Beyer DT990 600Ohm headphones.  I am excited that with the UDH-100 I can kernel stream 24/192 over USB instead of resampling :) just kinda feel like I blindly bought this because there is virtually no info or anything. Nuforce could have at the very least made a video but no...

I'm really curious about it. If it carries the same dac capabilities of the DAC-100 just minus the extra inputs, it would be a very good value. The noise specs seem even better on paper. Best of both worlds would be if it had the same dac capabilities as the DAC-100 and the amp of the HAP-100.
