Well considering my portaPro's went for $38, I would need to spend a lot more to make the wires more than the 'phones. I mean the raw wire used for them (silver coated copper w/teflon) will be minimal in cost (not too much used), add in a mini, some techflex (short run) and some shrink tube. we are looking at around $5-10 in parts. That is not too much at all sir.

i just removed the 'box' and the old wires are right there. it takes a minute to remove those and add yours, assuming the portapros are the same as the ksc75s.

Well, my KSC55 (shown above, with the white Zen Micro) is different. The only way to access the drivers' solder terminals is to remove the drivers. If you grab the outside edge of the driver and pull, the drivers just snap out of the headband, much like the KSC75 drivers unsnap from the ear-hooks.

Had the 'box' off of the outside of my Ksc35's last night for a look... I'm now starting to whimp out on the deal - i can't see being able to fit a couple of decent size wires in there a nice job to do... Decisions decisions...

you gotta post a photo of the inside, im think i understand how to pop off the 'box', i see the two glue spots, but dont want to break it doing it wrong. since you have already removed yours, you gotta post a pic.

See the Cardas Cable attached to those KCS-35's in the quoted pic in my post above? That is what I am referring to.

Now go look up how much that Cardas Cable costs.

So this will be my portaPro recabling

close up (thanks to Headchange4u, Quacker, and RnB180 for the litz braiding pages):

I was surprised how simply litz braiding is. about as simple as 'tri-braid'. i was following the one site, then i started to exam the wire, and 'saw' the pattern. comes out nice and clean.

BTW: this is about $3-4 in silver coated copper, teflon insulated mil spec wire...which is just fine for the Pro's.

Hey, you know, since I have two pairs of Porta Pros I might as well re-wire one with a balanced connection. I'll post plenty of good pics of the operation.

But I have to finish my DynaMid, first.

As i said - i pussied out and i ain't bustin' 'em open again anytime soon!

I can however tell you how the cover is fixed... The two little 'spots' you can see have small plastic poles extending from them and they simply 'snap' into the main body of the earphone. A word of caution - Be carefull prying these off - I broke one of the posts off, they really are delicate so i suggest a weeny screwdriver and carefull levering is the way to go (Not brute force/thumbs as i used!

are those Koss' you mentioned (the black ones photo'd above) the same driver and housing as the portaPro, just with ear clips instead of the adjustable/callapsable headband?
