Noble Audio - Introducing KATANA
Jul 13, 2016 at 11:46 AM Post #46 of 328
Is the black part of Katana universal ABS plastic like in the new classic line?

  Probably not.
The black portion is textured like the tan portion.
It also has indications that it's been cnc'd.

So, in the description on Nobles website it says for Katana and Kayten (oops sorry K10):

"Updated Noble universal form factor and geometry featuring creative precision machined aluminum housings"

And for the others it says:
"Updated Noble universal form factor and geometry featuring precision machined aluminum faceplates"

So - Katana is all aluminum as far as I can judge from the description.

Cheers!!

Tuned/tweaked by the by the manufacturer for the specific company is what I meant, in this case Noble. Quite a few years ago I was having my JH13 and UM Miracles re-shelled and the people told me they'd gladly take on the UM job but not the JH one owing to the fact that they could replace a busted driver on the Miracle if something were to go wrong, but not so with the JH13. Quoting from their email "Miracles use so called "off-shelf" driver which means in case of malfunction it can be easily replaced while JH uses customized drivers which are pretty much irreplaceable."

Yes Ritvik, you are correct, they are not "off the shelf drivers." The days are ending when one can pull apart a Noble product and post a 30 minute You Tube video of the BOM with the hopes of gaining notoriety.

As for the price increase:

Proprietary drivers and, design fees for the Katana housing increase the costs. The Katana housing is a complete new design, over the K10, it isn't a simple "skin change." The housing is more petite than the K10.   The Katana requires more CNC time, and that means it is more expensive to CNC the Katana than the K10 as well.

We also opened a new production facility in an industrial park which also impacts the build costs as well.

In here the summers get hot, the shinny and flat surface of Layla can become slippery compared to the rougher finish of Noble IEM. To be Noble housing is more thoughtful whereas Layla allow a deeper fit.

I did have the TG334, finish is great, fit also great, but it sticks out far more than Noble, not quiet as much as Layla.

Going back to Noble if you want to pick on them you can pick on almost anything except how they did there current universal finish.

The surface of the K10 and the Katana  are textured, so an issue of slipping shouldn't be a problem.

The Katana is built from CNC'd aluminum, just as the K10 is.

Sorry folks, estimated time been moved to 8-10 weeks due to demand

I called noble, they said that the new Katana's are a brighter more treble focused iem with less bass then Kaiser 10's. They also said that the Kaiser 10 is a more musical and interactive iem.
Hope this helps!

Ehh, I'd say more of a "hi-fidelity" type sound signature.....    Ultimately there will be those that prefer a Katana over a K10 or the K10 over a Katana.   They are two flag ship products, neither of which is expected to rival one over the other.

I get what you mean on the layla being huge. However, im referring to the finish.

For 1.85, Noble's finishing is definitely not up to par in terms of universals.

but my favorites so far is the Fitear, Alo and a few others.

64audio is another one whose finishing seem a touch lacklustre for the universals.

Have you seen or held a Katana?  I kinda doubt it, as I have the only ones ever are built in my hotel room at the moment.

Not trying to be rude or anything however you guys have justified the increase in cost but havent reminded users that there is 1 less driver in each piece. Isnt drivers supposed to be the expensive component?

Id personally think its a smart move from noble. Offering a different flavor flagship and somehow manage to market it at a higher price than the previous flag K10. If it lives up to the standards of the K10 i dont see an issue. but def props LOL

Wonder what the cost to manufacture (speaking pure hardware) is versus the K10. I know a lot more goes into it than that but I just wonder how much the hardware is.

Yes i read and get it. And thats why I say its a smart way of them to market these new flag IEM.

Look we have changed the housing, now use these cool proprietary drivers and MORE petite. plus purchased a new production facility to boot. All this for you with just 2 drivers less and 200$ more LOL
