hi, newbie here :)

i want to buy my first pair of serious headphones and i found 3 pairs 'till this point:

1) the AKG K240 (semi open)- 115$ on ebay (including shipping to ISR)

2) the Sennheiser HD 558 (open)- 210$ on ebay (including shipping to ISR)

3) the Audio Technica ATH-M50s (closed-straight wire)- 160$ on ebay (including shipping to ISR)

(my main music genres is rap, rock, blues, vocals.. everything!)

and of course there is the AMP question.. what amp should i buy (there is no need for portability)?

the budget for amp+headphones is 350$ including shipment..l of course i can try to make it bigger but 400$ is my limit.

hope for a quick answer,

Ben

They might need an amp though.

You might consider the Shure 440/840 instead of the M50.  The differences have already been beaten to death here, so I'm not going to post anything more, except that I've had a chance to compare the 840s and M50s side by side and preferred the 840 (but everyone's ears/tastes are different).

They sound fine unamped. I've never felt the need to amp any of my Shure SRH headphones, and I have them all.

Lol I love top gear! No, to me they're comfortable to me actually and I can wear them for hours on end with no issues. Some have complained about the weight of them but I just don't get that, unless ones neck is made of jelly filled wet noodles, then of course they will be heavy.
