I've got a pretty simple question for anyone who uses the sr60's or 80's. I do a lot of listening in my apartment and I need to hear someone knocking on the door or the telephone ringing in the next room. All my other headphones are closed or semi-open and too isolating to use during the day when I need to let in outside noise. How are the Grado sr60's and 80's in that regard? Do they let in a fair amount of outside noise compared to akg k240's for example? Thanks

As long as you keep the volume within safe limits, of course...

You should be able to hear the phone or the door.

Exactly. Unless you're already ear-impaired

You don't hear this everyday: buying open headphones because you want to ear the phone/door ring...

I have MS1's (same design pretty much) and I use them at work for this very reason, so I can hear my phone ring and when workmates need to get my attention

Wow, thanks...I knew my fellow head-fier's would come thru! It will be interesting to compare them to my RP-21's, my k240's, and my mdr-v6's!

Yeah, I work at home a lot and take time out for some music breaks, but need to hear the door, etc. Another plus is they fold up for travel even smaller than the sony's.

Should be no problem hearing someone knocking on the door or calling your phone.
Of course depending on how high volume you play, and the distance to the door/phone.
