I am in the market for some new cans, but I have no idea where to start my research. From other internet forums, I have heard this is the place to go if you want to know anything about headphones. My budget is about $400. I don't know if this is a good budget or not but I can't stretch it much further.

At the moment I am looking to buy a sound card for my computer, some better headphones, and maybe a dac/amplifier. Currently, I use logitech z-2300 2.1 speaker system and on board audio. I mainly use my speakers/headphones for music and games and sometimes an occasional movie. Currently I have JVC HA-RX700 headphones, but I am very dissapointed by them. They aren't comfortable and always make my ears hurt a lot. The also don't sound very good to be honest. I mainly listen to hip hop, rap, trance, techno, dubstep, and some of the new stuff in the top 100. The only genre of music I don't listen to is country. I will be using these mainly with my desktop.

To conclude, I want a headphone setup that will blow my current z-2300/on board out of the water. I want something that will make me have an eargasm every time I put it on (if that's possible)

I will try since Calzone is one of my favorite Italian disches, The budget is kind of tight but for 400.00 you can get a 770 Beyer which will give you bass but I belkieve 770 will run slightly under 200.00 and the Aune dac amp is getting some play so that wil;l take you to 400.00 I fyou can stretch The Deno D2000 for 225.00 will be good for all the stuff you want it for. Research the amp section for the Aune and Matrix combo's and also check out the Nuforce amp/dac combos.

Will amps/dac matter a lot? What about my sound card? I have on board audio.

How is an HD650 with e7/e9 setup? I was thinking of getting something like that. I don't know much about audiophile headphones, but people say they are a good setup.
