Audio Reference will be in attendance now also guys :)

They'll be bringing a range of high-end stuff for our listening pleasure (headphone gear, they do specialise in speaker-fi to obit that is beyond the scope of this event). I'm especially keen to hear the Chord Hugo, which I believe they will have by then.

I will post a list collating people's gear shortly.

Hopefully some other stuff to announce soon.

The Hugo looks mighty interesting. Pricey though.

Rolled a E80CC in the Crack today and it never sounded better.
Even with low impedance Magnums.

Sadly this combination can't be checked out at the meet!

Picking up my pair of matched Tesla 7DJ8 on Monday, hope I won't be disappointed. If I am though, there's always the Telefunken 6DJ8...at an extra price unfortunately.

Unfortunate indeed!

I will be adding a solid-state amp to my gear lineup before the meet. Haven't 100% decided which one yet, but the Violectric V200 is tempting....

And I will post my Discogs profile at some point so others can see what records I'm bringing to the meet - my collection has doubled since I last updated my profile!

My pair of Tesla 7DJ8 NOS has finally arrived, but I'm having a hard time trying to 'justify' its price. It costs more than my Philips 6DJ8 A-Frame, but I think I still prefer the latter... The most apparent difference is the Philips has more 'body', more 'weight' to the music. The guitar strings and vocals sounds fuller, while the Tesla sounds a bit thinner.

^ IIRC the Tesla is like Telefunken, Siemens etc. Harder, clearer, more 'neutral' and balanced. Sometimes described as more S/S-like but also holographic.

You're pairing with a Lyr right? Give them some time. You might get to like them...

Nah I'm pairing them with a WA3. You're right I think, the Tesla does make my WA3 more solid-state-like. Perhaps that's why I still kinda preferred the Philips A-Frame, but that doesn't mean I don't like the Tesla. But they are growing in me though, who knows, I might grow to like them more than the Philips.

You never know with valves. I prefer fairly neutral sound and prize transparency and detail but not produced by being dry. I have 1 or 2 valves that seemed to have too much of that character though and so I couldn't use them - until I got a DAC (the BMC PureDAC) which gave me a lot more resolution and quality in the bass. Suddenly these were just what I needed.

Haven't heard a Woo yet. Pretty good I understand!
