New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000
Dec 6, 2023 at 5:21 PM Post #9,361 of 9,406
Is there a list of devices ( also not from AK) which support Arc and are properly working? I wanted to see if there are some compact sized options with decent sound quality

Roon Arc requires Android 9 which is available on several Android DAPs. But it is not bitperfect on any Android device except over USB. Supposedly that is a work in progress, but no way to know for sure if it will happen. As @Progisus said, it does work well on Apple devices, but again only bitperfect over USB.

With pa10, the sp1000 outclasses the sp2000 and rivals some high end desktop rigs.

After many comparisons, with most my iems, the sp1k without the pa10 sounds as great as when paired with it but bit different.
I even think that the overall layering and bass texturing are slightly better without the amp. The soundstage width is similar but somehow appears to be even wider due to the more pronounced left-right channel. There is also this typical for AK flagships elegance and coherence to the sound. Also everything seems to be bit warmer and more "romantic" sounding.
The pa10 adds bit more dynamics, clarity and this typical class A smoothness and boldness. The advantages of the amp appear when listening to the full sized open back planars the most but with iems, the sp1k is STUNNING. Damn, after so many years, this is still one of the top dogs. I definitely prefer it to the dx320 even with the amp13 and 12EXN, M9, M8, se300 and sp2kT.
With the Softears Twilight the sound is just magical.

I suspect that the SP1000SS sounds best with the AMT transducer
seriously, this applies to both Obravo Ra-c-cu and GL-Amt 16
simply high tones in combination with the AMT transducer they give the best high tones I have heard, this is the quality of the Kse1200 and Stax 009 electrostats
something extraordinary, they are forward , euphoric, effortless, mind-blowing.
Together with a wide stage and organic sound, it gives the feeling of sound beyond the head, somewhere in space
simply 100% transparent, clean, euphoric sound, with beautiful, full vocals

True, most flagship AKs have the best trebles I've ever heard. Sharp, insanely detailed but also very natural and analog-like. Even top Shanling's players can't reach this level of realism.

Me too. I bought my SP1000 almost 7 years ago (in July 2017) and still love it. I use it everyday (heavily/for many hours) and it works like new. I never had any technical or software problems with it. Of course I hate the 2.5mm phone connector and the glass back plate on the SP1000 as I broke them both many times yet I see no reason to upgrade my SP1000 for anything else as it is an amazing/best player on all other levels including soundwise .

My unit backplate broken into 4 pcs.
Not my fault but designation. It is not solid rock.
I though it was kind of fiber reinfocement acrylic but I am wrong. Kind of cheap glass, not scratch resitance like the one on samsung phones

olddude, you are very lucky then as I broke my balanced connector zillion times already. The last time - just two weeks ago (see picture below). I just listened my player in a bed and when woke up in the morning, both the 2.5 connector and the balanced housing in the player were broken
