New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000

No Qobuz support again? Why is that? Is it because the Qobuz app is not supporting the A&K API?

"Also new is an open app service, allowing app developers to use the A&K API to enable direct loading of apps on the player. Eleven music services are supported at launch worldwide, with four of them supported in all markets - Amazon Music, Soundcloud, Spotify and Tidal. There's no Qobuz support for now. The SP1000M also has Tidal embedded as standard. What's the difference? It seems for full functionality - such as offline playback on Tidal - you need to load the apps on rather than having them embedded. We look forward to exploring this more in our full review."

The current Qobuz Android app requires Google Play Services and a valid Google Play Store installed on the device to function so it will not allow sideloading. We've been talking to Qobuz and was told they would be releasing a new version of the Android app that removes that requirement so it can be loaded onto our players. No ETA, but was told by Qobuz it should be soon after the US Launch. We should hopefully have more info after RMAF. Once the new version of the app is released, it will be able to be loaded on AK players supporting the OpenAPK service.

Lightning fast response. :) Thanks for the clarification Jason, much appreciated.

So after "burning in" my k702's, and doing some listening both through an amp, and straight from the sp1k, its my personal opinion that they really do need an amp, should i just wait for the sp1k amp to release or is there a reasonable separate portable amp that someone has had some luck with driving the 702's? I realize there are easier driven cans, but from what ive read they do sound pretty fantastic if driven properly.

Thanks in advance,
Hunter

That is odd as Qobuz used to be available on the 240 and 380 and AK stated in a previous post that it was dropped due to Quobuz' financial state but as the company seemed to be doing better and was expected to expand to the US, AK would look at it again.

dears,
i have lost the right ear of my iem (JH J13V2). it discontented from the cable and failed down a mountain last week!!!! contacted JH audio, they requested for 600 USD for the right ear only .... so better I look for another iem.
what could you advice me for my SP1000 ? two type of propositions : - not too expensive, - price not higher than 1200 USD.
that mean also I have to sell all the JH J13V2 cables I have (including the Moon Silver Dragon Cable 2.5mm balanced cable). in case someone was interested..

thanks,
sam

@JasonNYC I was wondering if the SP1000 firmware might address the Artist > Album opening in the expanded mode. Any hint of ROON ready?

@Progisus
Not in the last 3 beta versions that I've used, but it is something I keep asking them about also. I will add it to my feedback on the new firmware this week.

I dont think that 702 is easy to drive. This love sensitive/efficiency require the amplifier that can output high load current, which is very hard for portable device.
I find that sp1k can matching nicely with audeze sine, but with SE connection, i have to push the power to nearly 100%.

i agree that its not easy to drive, my question is , should i wait for the dedicated amp for the sp1k, or is there a portable amp out there that pairs well with the 702's?

Jason, Just a quick question about Tidal masters, MQA and AK SP1000M.

When will AK decide whether to support Tidal masters/MQA?
If AK does decide to do so will the SP1000M be capable of supporting it?

I would buy one like a shot if those questions receive affirmative answers
Since we currently do not support MQA, Tidal Masters will not be available on either the embedded app or the one installed via the OpenAPK service.
