ah ok, my badThe A300 series doesn't have the same capacitors that higher end Sony DAP's do, and don't supposedly need burn in. You don't even get a warning message like you do with the ZX/WM ranges which advise 200hrs burn-in.

New Sony Walkman NW-A300 Series (Android 12)
back to my question that was left some posts ago, does someone know how to measure and compare max volume in REW or any other tool?Mine does not have the cap, it scales to 120 (not required) as it is excruciating loud with my IEMS, .

Interesting video upload, one of you lot?
Difference clear to hear! Both bass issue Sony's weak as a fart. Pity he didn't have a good one to directly compare.

thanks, this helps as reference. I already know what the volume I need for the capped UK version but it's difficult to compare against other versions without having them. All have a volume range of 120 volume steps. Typically if you like the volume at 50/120 on an uncapped Japanese one the same volume output on a US/UK/EU one would need top be ~70/120.
If you have a more demanding IEM then with an uncapped one you may be at 110/120 while with the capped one it would max out at 120/120 and still not be loud enough.
Saying that, all three of my IEM's should still be loud enough on a capped version.
The un-capped ones let you turn the AVLS nagging and volume drop down totally off, the capped ones don't.
- My Shure SE846 at 55/120 would need to be at 75/120
- My Fiio FD7 at 75/120 would need to be at 95/120
- My Sony IER-M9 at 85/120 would need to be at 105/120
Some owners think the capped ones also lack 'life' and have a veil. That was certainly the case for me with a UK A105 & ZX507 vs a Japanese one, but this time I didn't even bother to try a UK one and went straight to import one from Japan.
I couldn't find the AVLS option in the capped UK one, is there a menu instruction or screenshot in particular that you can share?
Thank you!

I think this is coming from @willmono7 , I wonder if he returned them and whether he got both from Amazon UK. I know one was

120/120 on capped is as loud as 113/120 on uncapped.Question regarding volume capping in EU/UK
Is there a way to measure this or is the capping referring merely to any possible warning when increasing the volume?
How does this audio capping manifest?
I'm asking because the UK version I have doesn't display any warning (visual or otherwise) when increasing the volume to 120 and leaving it there for several days, is there a way to check the volume capping?
Is there any other difference in comparison to the Japanese version?
Thanks
AVLS on capped goes up to 75 while AVLS on uncapped only goes to 68 due to higher volume at same setting
Furthermore DAP that have High-Gain (like ZX and WM1 Series) obviously don't have high gain in capped Version

jeez, the lack of bass is extremely clear even though I watched the video with a pair of plantronics bluetooth headsets

If it follows the same level of capping as the A105, ZX507, WM1ZM2 then its about a 20+ volume step increase needed on capped one with all three of my IEM's.120/120 on capped is as loud as 113/120 on uncapped.

Have you heard a capped one before with you being in Japan ?

On my capped unit, it was about 20 steps lower on volume than normal. Output on an uncapped one is just less than a volt .98 so I'd say it's probably .70 Vrms capped. Very low. But class d amp is easier to keep distortion down with lower output.

On my unit, it randomly locked the volume at 50- even during play sometimes , and I had to manually go into AVLS and turn it off so I could crank the volume up again. Very irritating. Maybe US cap is different, but it sucked. That warning was supposed to come on only after about 20 hours of play but mine did it 4 times before I sent it back.

that doesn't seem that dramatic though they doesn't make as much sense from what the vintage data might suggest.
Has anyone used the 306 either version with the ier-z1r?
