We have not found a right angle that has the proper strain relief to protect the cable exit point. So far all the ones we have examined will be problematic. We find that with right angles most people then bend the wire at 90 degrees which will cause issues. Thus why I always use straight. Works better especially when putting in your pocket.

So what do all the folks who have amps with the large 4 pin output jack do?
Are we forced to by new cables?

Many amp vendors are still making and selling amps with the 4 pin XLR and not the 4.4mm balanced XLR?

This might be a cable makers dream in selling new cables with the 4.4mm balanced connectors?

Is there a good adapter to go from a 4.4mm balanced cable to the "old" defunct 4 pin XLR Male?

Thanks for the link....is there a already made adapter that would fit the included stock cable that Senn HD800s come with (4.4mm) that would allow connection to an existing
4 pin large XLR? ie 4.4 mm female to 4 pin XLR male?

If there is a link or approx how much would one cost to make?

Thanks
Alex

We only have cable adapters. No 4 pin XLR all in one adapters that I know off yet.
Problem solved:

$23...got it and its good quality and worked with the 4.4mm balanced for the HD800s and mated very well.

The problem with the 2.5mm and 3.5mm TRRS connections is that there is no grounding connection. Thus when you try to tie a balanced output from a portable DC powered device to an AC based home piece where there is a true earth ground associated with it, there can be a ground loop issue.

This can introduce hum into the signal path thus the reason Astell & Kern developed their dual connector (3.5mm and 2.5mm) block for connecting their portable players to home systems. The 3.5mm acts as the ground connection. The 4.4mm TRRRS is a brilliant connection choice in my opinion as it is smaller than 1/4", 4 pin XLR or dual 3 pin XLRs. I hope more companies adopt it. It is more robust than the 3.5mm and 2.5mm. The tabs in the 4.4mm female jack are also large enough to help retain a good contact force over the male plug. The 2.5mm is terrible at this and even 3.5mm jacks get loose over time.

I hope this helps clarify it a bit more. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank You.

So the extra conductor has no use in headphones? Other then perhaps mic in future, or do you require 6 conductors for balanced with mic.

The extra tab for grounding has no use for headphone,s but does have a use when connecting a balanced line output from a Dap to your home system. This will ground the Dap to the system and earth, thus preventing possible ground loops and that nasty hum.

Totally disagree here...we dont need another form factor, the existing 3 and 4 pin jacks and connectors that have been around for YEARS are just fine.
Strong, easy to build with.....
So someone comes out with a smaller balanced connector and we all have to jump to it??
I dont think so.
I am not a lemming and will not jump on this bandwagon...so folks are forced into buying new adapters and cables....its mad enough already!
This connector seems to be fine for smaller devices like DAPS etc...
But for us folks that have desktop amps, dacs this is NOT needed.
No technical reason for it over the existing 3 and 4 pin XLR stuff we have.

Amazing how folks just accept stuff .....nope, not here...not going to happen!
