I'd definitely buy a HD900 with a teeny bit of extra warmth or mid and (to a lesser extent) low bass impact. Maybe cull the highs by a very very small fraction too, drop the mid emphasis by a minuscule amount too and you have near perfect. Or they could just do all of the above with the HD700's and make me a very happy chappy!

Or you could get a proper tube amp and start rolling....

I know I know lol. What I plan to do with possibly a WA2. But I honestly would prefer if they were like that by default without needing tube warmth to add that slight additional smoothness. Ideally, I'm discussing a signature that would be as such, with a completely neutral amp/DAC.

I know the LCD-2/3 might seem that at first, but imo the soundstage size and imaging (compared to the HD800 and T1) still let it down somewhat. That ideal balance is still there for the taking.

Believe me, once I heard the 800 properly after the 4th or 5th setup at a meet I had a a huge internal debate as to whether it worth the trouble of dedicating a properly synergized system to one phone.  It was never my intent to introduce hardware EQ (bad term) or whatever one would call it via an amp.  So much for that.  At least my DAC will remain unmolested.  All I can say is you don't want anything that will restrict the transparency on an 800 which renders the phone a mediocre ToTL.  I would refer you to Woo's own comparison chart for their lineup if you are leaning that direction.  Unfortunately it is a rather major commitment.

You have the HE-500? How does it stack up to the K1000 and sextets? (I know, apple's and orange's, but who gets the listening time :) )

I think the HE500 and LCD-3 are the best stock orthos on the market.  I don't think either one has fully resolved the quirks in the technology, but I think they are both closer than any other ortho you can buy.  I think the HE500 is better than the Sextetts and K1000 technically, and if you like both those phones you'd probably like the HE500 as well.  It's kind of in between, and it's also a nice balance between the LCD-2 and HD800.  Finds a nice middle ground.  Still, it has it's shortcomings though.

That's probably all I should say in the HD700 hype thread.  :)

So the cat's finally out the bag and the rumors turned out to be true, looking good so far. The pads are angled according to the article and 150 Ohm seem to be nice to drive. I'm guess that they'll retail for around 699€ over here. Price is to be announced.

Available mid march according to this.

No one can be sure, but I'd think it's the drivers themselves that are angled, as opposed to the pads.

150 Ohms?  That's not very high.

i know. i want to start seeing some more standardized 600ohm headphones again. only 600ohm nominal headphone sennheiser had was the Linears that was made for radio broadcasting and studios. the 600ohm breed of headphones are dying man....dying!

I'm really interested to see what plug type for the connectors that the HD700 will use...
