WOW that's good news and hope all these models will sonicaly enhance the music listning experience. But with CX500 i doubt it willbe significantely better than CX400 because inline volume controler.

I'm confused - the CX400 and CX500 look the same as the CX300, which doesn't have a volume controller. I looked at the Senn website but it doesn't say anything about the volume whatsit. Can you tell me where you saw that? I had the CX300s and if the CX500s are the same (but better!) I want to get them, but not if it's got a volume thingy on it! Thanks

It does have volume control:

The CX 500 is the new top-of-the-range model in the Classic line and comes in high gloss black, high gloss white and titanium. It stands out for having a wider frequency response and special ear adapters which give the ear canal phones an even better fit. It comes with a pouch, cable clip, cord take-in device and volume adjuster on the cord.

Which is probably the reason why I won't get them, or maybe do a podectomy...

the fat rounded back usualy means dynamic driver, armature based are usualy thiner and dont have the semisphearical back,

its about testing them, seeing how they compare in sound quality and the price senshaiser decides to charge for them,
currently, im seeing CX300 for 50-60 dollars, considering the EP630 is usualy 20 bucks cheaper and the crossroads Mylarone series, thats a rip off,

That's why I'm confused, I'm thinking it's the noise-cancellation thing. So the volume adjuster is simply to adjust the volume on the player? No batteries etc. It would be interesting to try them, wonder what the prices will be. Here in the UK, Amazon are selling the CX300's for just under £13.00 (about $26) which is about the cheapest I've seen them for brand new. Maybe they'll sell the CX500s for a good price too. . . here's hoping

The volume adjuster should be the same as the attenuator you had with your E500. If it comes with the headphones, you don't adjust the volume of the player, but the signal going out of the player.

Aaah, now I understand - I never needed to use the attenuator on the E500s. I might have done if I'd been on an airplane, but I just used the volume on the player, it was fine.

How well have prior high-end models of Senn canalphones performed? Are they pretty well received in this forum? How do they generally compare to the Shure, Etymotic, Ultimate Ears, etc. (read a few historical threads, but looking for a summary view)?

they dont have any highend models. sennheiser only had the cx300 which seems to be a success. i think thats why theyre releasing 5 models simultaneously
