I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of the guts of the RAG. Will they compete with these guts? ¬

Those are some clean innards.

What's that?

Anyway, here are some pics full of Schiit, in case you missed them:

Some of you know me...most don't, but I'm a head-fi devotee and I also do the photography for a number of high end headphone companies...including Schiit.

I just had the opportunity to shoot the Schiit (photographically, that is) and to spend a VERY little time listening to Ragnarok before I had to pack it back up and send it home to California.

Full disclosure...as I said, I do freelance work for Schiit, so you should take that into account and feel free to dismiss the comments as a feeble attempt to blow smoke up a client's arse.  But most of you know that neither Jason nor Mike needs my approbation...they know what they're doing.

Flash back to October 2013 where Schiit showed an early pre-production Alpha version of Ragnarok at RMAF.  It's a noisy room etc, but I will tell you that I wasn't impressed.  I didn't think there was any way to justify the price difference from Mjolnir...on sound quality alone, anyway.

Today, I finally got to spend an hour listening through my LCD-X's, and I was thoroughly impressed.  This was not the same amp I heard at RMAF...not even close.  At my studio, the only DAC I had available was the humble $99 Modi.  Even so, the soundstage was WIIIIIDE and DEEEEEP.  But the thing that leapt out right away was the seemingly infinite power reserves and dynamic range.  Complicated and dynamic passages were handled with ease and never seemed to collapse.  Kick drums were powerful and gut wrenching while snare attach was sharp and clean.  The bass was tightly controlled yet copious in quantity.  Stevie Ray Vaugh's version of Little Wing is my go-to track for testing, and it never sounded better.  I felt like I was there with the band...I thought I could smell the tubes in his guitar amp!

I regret having to send it back so soon as I did not get a chance to try it with other, more resolving DAC's and I didn't get to hook it into my speaker system.

Looks like I'll have to arrange an extended audition...AKA purchase!

I'm happy to answer questions about the sonics, but I won't be sharing product photos until after the release and I won't answer questions about the feature set beyond what was listed in the OP in this thread.

I will give you this one teaser photo from my listening session.

I wonder if any of the yggdrasil tech will be upgradable in Bifrost later on :D.

I wondered the same thing a while back about it trickling down to the Gungnir. **I was informed that no, it won't. I guess the Yggy is just too different to translate into the "lesser" models.

**that's just what I was told
