I wouldn't buy another one right now. Every couple of years they come out with a new model with even better features and performance.

And it's almost 2 years now since this one came out.

They won't be releasing a new player anytime soon. Not for at least another year.

Is the Oppo BDP-103 able to transmit an I2S signal over HDMI?

No it does not as I2S is designed to go between a transport and the associated DAC over short cables. Some manufacturers (exSAudio) use the HDMI connector for this purpose but it is only the connector as I2S transport is not part of the HDMI standard. This begs the question as to what you are trying to a achieve versus simply using HDMI or Digital out into an external DAC?
